Default New York City Comic-Con 2019

New York City Comic-Con is coming next week, so I thought I'd make a thread discussing it. What do you hope to see at NYCC? What do you expect to see there? Anything related to NYCC, feel free to discuss.

Here's what I predict will be shown:

    Thor by Donny Cates
    Guardians of the Galaxy 2020
    Young Avengers relaunch
Dawn of X: Wave 1 first look
Dawn of X: Wave 2 announcements
Several new series (I'm hoping for Hawkeye and Ant-Man in particular)
    A new Spider-title

Anyways, what about you guys? Discuss.

Formal announcement that Runaways is ending at issue 30.
Continuity, even in a "shared" comics universe is often insignificant if not largely detrimental to the quality of a comic.

    Immortal X-Men - Once & Future- X-Cellent - X-Men: Red

To be replaced by a title about Doc Justice and the J-Team?

Nah, but that couldn't possibly sell less than the current series is month-to-month. Favourite book, but no matter how you crunch it the numbers are bad.

If it wasn't for the show, and Cebulski's affection for the team it would have been cancelled at issue 18.

I always got the impression that, like with Ms. Marvel, Runaways does really well with digital and trades. I know Ms. Marvel does badly in floppies but phenomenal in trades/digital so it's not going anywhere. I think it'd be cancelled for sure if not for having some kind of success. Plus, they hyped Doc Justice and the J-Team as being this big new super team and the next big evolution for the Runaways, so I expect something to be done with it.

I like the idea, mainly because they've subverted superhero tropes for so long that the next logical step would be to double-subvert it and become superheroes themselves. For so long, the Runaways have existed in the shadow of BKV, and Marvel let it be cancelled for eight years because no one else could live up to it. Rainbow Rowell has done a respectable job, to be fair, but BKV's style is hard to reach because he knows the characters all too well.

Maybe the idea is to just say "screw it" and do something with the IP that BKV never would've done.

That's why I think a Doc Justice and the J-Team title will replace the Runaways. They can't just be building up to nothing.

Bleeding Cool seems to indicate Marvel will start teasing the new Eternals.

I agree. I think it's a fair assumption to make that titles that would appeal to younger readers will get a significant amount of digital purchases. And those figures are seldom, if every revealed. They used to have them on the Comixology site but I think that was removed several years ago.

I think we'll see a Doc Justice/J-Team title launch too. Rainbow Rowell is such a talented writer I hope she will be on it. And Doombot is hilarious. I like that she kept the friendship between him and Victor Mancha from Avengers A.I

I have no idea what to expect, but here is what I hope:

A new ongoing by Christos Gage (please not one of those video game adaptations)

A new title by Al Ewing, preferably a team book (but please no FF)
Or even better, an big event by same writer.

A X-kids ongoing. Rowell would be a good choice.

Replacements for the teen/kid books that got cancelled. Especially a new ongoing for Eve Ewing.
If Young Avengers is relaunched, please don't make it 80% about Wiccan, this time.

Some focus on Black Knight. Either solo or major player in a team books.

Writers and artists I don't like being confined to Wolverine, Conan, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Punisher and Star Wars comics.

Bring back those characters in ongoings (team or solo): Colleen Wing, Warlock (the Technarch), Blue Marvel, Songbird, Finesse, Striker.

Yeah, if Runaways is cancelled, Rowell's going to need a new book. Generation X?

Wiccan's probably not in any new YA book, as he's in Strikeforce.

Since I don't expect the Scarlet Witch to be in any comics any time soon, I hope we get some kind of tease about the stories of WandaVision or Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

There's a connection to the comics because I suspect the publishing side will be more willing to feature some of the MCU characters once they know more about the stories of their Disney+ show. Sam Wilson/Falcon is another example of a character who might not return to the comics until someone tells the publishing side what his streaming show will be about.

I do think that trio will get another series to finish the No trilogy (which would once again involve Voyager and would deal with the new look Olympians), but it'd be longer than 4 issues. Probably 10 again.
