And, as far as I know, his actual powers origin wasn't truly explained, just that Osborne experimented on him to strengthen his powers. So, retcon him as a mutant all along and resurrect Mettle.

Totally! The original Samurai was so much better than his kid. I've always wished Petra and Sway were the ones who survived Deadly Genesis. And Caliban's death never made sense to me. He should have been tougher than that.

Add in everyone killed by Rosenberg (would really love that entire run to be officially ignored by everyone).

Well, it was the real world Diana, Princess of Wales. Anyway, yeah, I don't really like incorporating real world people into fiction. I doubt this would be appreciated.
