    Default Rank the Thor's

From weakest to strongest. Comic book versions only.

Anyone who has held Mjolnir and BEEN WORTHY (or a near Mjolnir analogue) can be considered here.

    Thoughts?

Bonus: Same thing but one off or temporary power ups count as a separate Thor entry.

I'm all Thor excited right now because Donny Cates is in charge of the new Thor run =)

Yeeeaahhh but I'm still excited. ^_^

I mean, what's Aaron going to do? Hopelessly ruin Thor beyond all redemption right before handing him off?

    ...wait.

Only using Aaron's run that I've read like two arcs of and only gotten feats via hearsay.

King Thor > Jane Thor > Worthy Thor > Unworthy Thor > Young Thor.

Is King Thor also Rune King Thor? Or are they different entities? Cause Rune King is pretty high up there in the power ranks.

And where would you put in Beta Ray Bill, Red Norvell, Dargo, and Thunderstrike.

Weakest would be Captain America, who seemingly got no power-up at all from the hammer.

Oh, hasn’t Future Surfer wielded the hammer? That’s got to be fairly high on the list...?

Is it all right if I ask what people’s beef with Aaron is? Not wanting to break forum rules or anything.

I’ve never been able to read comics directly, just keeping up on vs forums and the like, but I remember people heavily praising the Gor the God Butcher stuff.

I know a lot of people didn’t love Jane Thor but I never saw anyone cogently lay it all out and never quite felt like I had the whole story on Aaron’s run...it kind of bugs me.

Jane Thor herself is ... fine (I would've preferred Tarene ... cuz she's literally Thorgirl), but Aaron basically pulled his pants down and shit all over Thor's canon and the character to establish her as the bestest which was completely unnecessary and not something I'd like to see from any writer really.

    But like SERIOUSLY. TARENE:

So who is this Tho Girl? How is she related? Does she carry Mjolnir?

She was a cosmic entity born to help push life to the next 'state' of evolution, IIRC.

Thanos (a clone) blew up her homeworld however, and she came to Thor/Asgard for help. After that, she turned herself into an Asgardian Goddess cuz she can do that, and is now physically an Asgardian) and helped Thor out a few times against Gladiator, and Loki. Then during the fight with Surtur she gave up most of her cosmic power to stop him and when Odin died she lost the rest of it, but still kept her 'Thor Girl' boost.

THEN during Fear Itself, she was thought to be in league with the Worthy was tortured by the US Government, ended up fighting Kuurth (only to get attacked by the heroes cuz they thought she was an enemy) and long story short; at the end of the story-arc she got her cosmic powers back and left Earth.

Also yes, she has her own hammer.

So basically, there was already a 'female' Thor running around this side of the 2010's, and it would've been cool to see her get pushed more.

It's nothing to do with rules or anything. Just sort of a shared opinion.

For me personally, there are probably too many small factors to describe in detail, so I'll keep it to my broader complaints.

1: Jane Thor. It has nothing to do with her being a woman or anything else like that. Nothing inherently wrong with Foster being worthy. It could have been a very interesting story to tell in my opinion. Buuuut Aaron seemingly went out of his way to put the former Odinson down in order to make Jane come off well by comparison. She didn't seem to have any struggles (which is always a touch boring imo) and very early on was performing feats that literally had Odinson saying things on panel like "How is she doing that? I could NEVER do that!". Putting down Odinson and giving her no real adversity or learning curve irked me. Mileage may vary.

2: Thor becoming unworthy in the first place just because Fury told him "Gor was right" felt a little forced. He literally had just overcome the Gor problem and it felt weird for that to affect him so. I might be spacing on the timeline of events here - been a while since I've read that stuff.

3: Internal consistency with the Thor characters in general. Everything from narration, feats and even some hard/soft reboots. Aaron ignored and recreated MANY ideas and aspects of Mjolnir to the point where Odin couldn't lift the darn thing, a sentient galaxy sized lightning storm was living in it etc. And get this - Jane literally kills/destroys Mjolnir by tossing it into the sun at one point. The freaking sun. Mjolnir has been in MULTIPLE stars many times in it's history - including TWICE as written by Aaron himself! It's never had a scratch. But then it gets destroyed? Just weird. He had to ignore a looot of other Mjolnir related history as well in regards to its various forgings and destructions in history.

These are just a few of my issues, but I hope it gets the point across.

Along with many of the reasons you pointed out, a big reason why I despised Jane, was she was so damned unlikable and unheroic...despite everyone drooling like morongs and claiming she was all that and a bag of chips. Maybe I'm completely in the dark here, but last I saw Jane and Thor have a relationship, they were considered very good friends. Jane was helping Thor find the missing Asgardians, among other things (this was around the Dark Avengers stuff, when I last read) so unless something SERIOUSLY changed that I missed, there was NO reason for Jane to NOT tell Thor she had his hammer (yes, I'm calling him Thor, not Odinson. Thor is his f***ing name whether Aaron believes it or not. He's an idiot, and I don't care about his opinion). All they needed to do was have Jane get the hammer, transform, and immediately go tell Thor. Then Thor would explain he was unworthy and she had his blessing to use HIS weapon as she saw fit. She'd say that she'd carry on in his name and fight evil...and Thor might even tell her to go ahead and literally use his name if she wants...whatever. That would have been no big deal, would have been in character for both of them, and we could have gotten to the adventures with Jane. Maybe they could have even spent an issue or two with Thor showing/telling her how to use the hammer and give her tips on how to fight (she was a f***ing nurse/doctor with ZERO experience). We could have gotten scenes where Thor tells Jane the proper way to throw the hammer...and Jane might fail or something the first time...then just be awesome the second time and the two of them could laugh and share a joke or something and so on and so forth, until Jane was ready to go out there and kick some butt. We got none of that.

Aaron had to do this lame mystery...even though the overwhelming vast majority of fans, upon seeing the new Thor said "It's either Sif, Valkyrie, or Jane Foster...and it's probably Jane Foster" right away. She selfishly kept the hammer all for herself because she was sick and didn't tell her beloved good friend at all! She proceeded to absolutely easily dominate and crush some of Thor's toughest foes...sometimes with just a single punch! All with the mighty training and combat hardened experience she had from...being a nurse...NO WAIT...Doctor. She instantly knew all of the abilities of the hammer, and even changed the inscription on the hammer in an extremely selfish manner (so, I guess if a man gets the hammer, he's allowed to zap out the "s" in "Whoever finds this hammer if she be worthy, shall have the power of Thor?). Even after the lame mystery was solved, Jane acted like a selfish, entitled jerk. She'd run her mouth off to Thor, about plans and strategies that she had that were so much better and more clever than his. Aaron made up the crap about the hammer being sentient, even though it had NEVER been before (Odin originally used the hammer himself, by the way, several times!). Lots of identity politics and agenda stuff that didn't need to be in a fun superhero story.

And before anyone tries to rip me that "Well, Eric Masterson was able to fight and use the hammer powers just fine, and you aren't complaining about that, bigot!" Eric shared a body, spirit (kinda) and mind (kinda) with Thor for a good long while. He learned how to fight and use Thor's abilities that way. When Thor was later "banished" to the deepest recesses of Eric's mind (thus introducing the Masterson Thor), Eric...did a good job with the powers...but really kinda sucked when fighting. He got his head handed to him time and time again, and NEVER beat anyone with one punch! Even a D-lister like Ulik got the drop on him in their first encounter! Jane never dealt with any of this. She never suffered (Oh nos, she had cancer! Except when she was in Thor form so...who gives a damn?) and she never struggled. Amusingly, the one that Marvel (Aaron) fawned over being the "most worthy of all!" to have the name, hammer, and powers, was by far the least worthy and most insufferable.

People were fine with that storyline, since as I recall previous Thor comics were comparatively treading water. No wonder Aaron kept coming back to highlights from there like Old Man Thor and the Necrosword. For the purposes of these discussions Thor was still getting into worthy enough business like holding a cracking Moon or planetoid together with strength to save an alien race.

It's just that some think Aaron reaaally overstayed the welcome.
