DC is not a place to look for relationships right now. The current regime doesn't like them, even the historically strong ones.

That said, currently I can't think of any and while yes they don't work out, it's not just that specific pairing. Generally, superhero relationships go on for a while then die until someone gets nostalgic. Clark and Lois are me the exception than rule.

For Mr. Terrific specifically, I don't know that he's built to have one. Other than being the third smartest man and tech, he's a widower and atheist. That's it. I'm oversimplifying, but he has no rogues or supporting cast of his own so developing him in a relationship actually ends up making him more generic because he loses an element and gains very little. Sasha was a good direction if I recall because she was a natural fit in his universe (over on Checkmate), their skillets put them in places where he could shine, and he could grow.

He's doing well over in the Terrifics and I'm hoping he's coming back to the JSA as well, but I don't know if a relationship will ever work with him.

Power Girl is a common factor between Val and Michael but both times it seemed like they had no idea what to do with either and nobody was well served. The PG characterization most tend to respond to is the sassy lady who takes no ****, and stoic doesn't pair well with that, so perhaps that's why these failed outside poor execution. I imagine she needs a more dynamic love interest. They usually try to hook her up with more series heroes, maybe someone more upbeat would land. I don't know.

Watch Justice League for DC's best relationship of that nature, but speaking frankly, superhero comics are a bad place to see relationships work out. Even the evergreen ones (Ollie/Dinah, Arthur/Mera) get separated all the time. Hell, even Lois and Clark do from time to time.

Steel and Lana Lang are the only interracial couple I can think of, we haven't seen them since Bendis took over.

Even before that. They only appeared in Superwoman and that book was gutted by Superman Reborn and cancelled soon after. I don't think they even appeared anywhere after that, save Metal for Steele.

But so far, it seems that New 52 Lana Lang has simply ceased to exist, with everything great from that era.

Why should they have to justify that, though? I think the thing to think about is if they were drawing all white characters in those situations, would you have said anything like this? A black man gets in the mix, and all of a sudden, it's like, "Explain yourself!" As if they should be ashamed of it, or keep it on the down low, or something.

    Just food for thought.

Personally, I think it's cool that they're drawing at all, and interracial superhero pairings are as valid an inspiration as any, and something that people who like that stuff/relate to it in some way probably don't see/get enough of.

He didn't tell him to "justify" his reasons, he simply asked him why so fixed on this. OP can either answer or not because no one is forcing him here.

I think it looks cool and normal white pairings are too mainstream (I donīt hate it, I like it too, I wasnīt always into interracial matters) there isnīt much science about this "fixated" thing. Itīs a fetish, or personal taste if you prefer it, for example: guy likes brunnetes women, his other friends prefer redheads, his best friend prefer blondes, a girl like martial arts but his brother prefers geek stuff. There isnīt always a reason to everything, some times things just are random.

Yeah, both are black in Rebirth

So before that, it's with Siren huh? Villain pairing. I kinda like it. That's kinda rare too, isn't it? Was it good or bad?

No need to get defensive. Firstly, s/he's posted a bunch of them recently. Nothing wrong with it, but the OP specifically draws attention to their race - not just that these are couples s/he would like to see. (if someone posted a bunch of threads titled, "white couples I'd like to see", wouldn't that jump out at you a little? It would to me) There's nothing shameful about it and and I don't need him/her to "justify" anything. As I said, I was genuinely curious about his/her emphasis on race.

Thank you for responding. Cool - I appreciate it. I am glad you didn't take offense at the question.

maybe check out a porn site besides comic books?? I don't remember being so fascinated with skin color when I was growing up. People were just people.

Yeah, the whole "people were just people" never happened in our lifetimes.

It may seem that it did for those allowed to be just people - and nothing wrong with that, at all - but it was never not even a little tiny bit real.

I am not being defensive. If you're taking it that way, you're putting some inflection on my comment yourself.

The emphasis on race is clearly due to their preference being something that is not totally normalized or especially very common in comics. White relationships are normal and common in superhero comics, and have been for 80 or so years. There is no need to specify them. They're the norm, unless you get into something more specific like white gay relationships.

Siren wasn't Jackson's mother pre-Flashpoint. In the Young Justice animated series, Kaldur's mother is white (this idea was apparently in place before Kaldur was integrated into the comics) but she isn't Hila.
