Which explains her butterfly-shaped psionic signature (Greek myth reference).

    Jean grey and Dr Pym.

No one will ever figure out their secret identity with those codenames!

    Kid Nova

I felt a great sense of relief when Rich dropped the "Kid" from his code-name, and just went back to being called Nova.

I like the name because it sounds cool and it's unique. In Spain she's called "mental butterfly."

With Jean it's either Marvel Girl or Phoenix. One implies she's a girl and the other is related to her more unstable über-powerful self which she would rather not have. They could've gone for "Marvel Woman" or "Mrs. Marvel" since she's the only one of the "Marvels" who's married.

Goldballs is a great contender for this thread. I'm sure he would win if there were a poll.

That might well be the case, it sounds quite clever. The term "mindlock" was used by one of Betsy's ill-fated Psi-Division friends in the issue that Moore re-introduced Betsy to the Captain Britain strip, so perhaps that inspired Claremont?

Neither of them have a secret identity though. Also, Pym does have a codename most of the time. Ant-Man, Giant-Man, Goliath, Yellowjacket, Wasp. Before he was merged with Ultron, he'd been using Giant-Man. I wonder what he'll do when he finally gets unfused? All five of his old codenames are in use by someone else now.

I've always thought names like Dr. Doom and Mister Sinister were corny, even by comic book standards.

I love Stature, Wiccan, and Hulkling as characters, but their names are awful.

Moon boy and Moon Girl. Like, what does their names even have to do with their heroic identities?

All of the worst names belong to the Hulk spinoffs, and Hulking is the worst one. Hulkling would be the worst one even if he was in any way related to the Hulk.

Stature has been ditched, she's Stinger now.

Moon Girl was explained as being a nickname even before she became a hero. Probably came from her first name Lunella. Since Luna means moon!

Pete agrees, that's why he's now called the Trapster.

Should have been Trapmaster. Trapster sounds like a douchebro nickname.
