This latest headline on Warner losing money, because it had other investors, just seems like the continuing effort by media to create a buzz-worthy story out of random facts. Warner lost money to other investors and creatives on the film. So they made money for the group of people doing the movie. That's what capitalism is about. Warner never holds onto its money--it's a money generating system where money keeps coming in from investors and from consumers and keeps going out to investors and to employees. That it can do this effectively shows that it's a solid company. If it fails to bring in investors and pay off those investors, that's when a company is in trouble. I'm sure some people at Warner would like to have more of that money--but rewarding other investors ensures Warner that it will be able to get more capital when it needs it in the future.

I'll repeat what I posted on the other thread.

Not all films. John campea just talked about this the other day on his show and explained it. It's films they think have more risk. Avengers endgame you know will make money so fund it yourself. Green hornet is a little risky so you can see them doing it for that movie.

Not every film gets this and they said it's a "dice roll". If the movie bombs you don't lose as much so it's great but it sucks if the film is a huge hit as that was money you could have kept for yourself. Plus on top of that the movie chains get a cut. WB had to choose to do this with joker. (a low budget film to boot) and now must pay for it. Yes WB is kicking themselves over it and no they didn't have to do this with joker but they rolled the dice and lost and will now lose millions that would have been just for them! WB now loses 50% of all joker profits on top of the movie chain cut!

That's Hollywood.

Edit--With that said wb is still going to make money off of this film. They may end up making smaller budget dc comics movies also. Share the profits or not wb is still going to make money off this film.

Comically all studios use funny accounting practices to not pay certain folks or royalties...as an example..


- Ghostbusters (1984) is considered a huge hit film. The original company that owned a name called Ghost Busters was paid $500,000 to let Columbia use the name in a film and a special 1% royalty on the profits the film made. Columbia worked it where they claimed there was no profits.


- Batman (1989) in the book "Hit & Run" its claimed that the original producers or writers behind the film was promised a certain fee on profits the film claimed. WB claimed it didn't .


Them doing this for Joker is not a shock. Phoenix though is now the most important piece for WB to try and appease. Its clear they need him back for more of this Joker. So he's gonna likely demand a big paycheck to come back for more.

I always say this, if a movie makes 400-500 million and is a “flop” that’s not on the film. That’s on the studios money management. Joker was made on a $55 million budget (probably too much already) and is hitting a billion. It was successful.

I'm surprised with all the big money involved no one ever takes studios to court over this sort of thing. All they'd need is to get in front of a jury and point out how ridiculous it is that a studio is trying to claim to have made no profit off the biggest hit of the season.

Aquaman's box office was a surprise but I am glad Joker outdid Shazam instead. I kind of hated that film because it felt as if DC was now copying marvel so I am very happy Joker outdid Shazam more than it may do with Aquaman which also was like a marvel movie but Shazam was just too childish. I did not like it at all.

The success of Joker will make WB stick to their gunnns.

Yup filmation who made he-man, fat albert, the star trek, dc comics 60s cartoons and archie cartoons had made a live action ghostbusters series long ago. Yes they told them the film didn't money and didn't pay them! It gets worse! Filmation even after getting cheated still saw the film as a hit with kids (ironic thing is the studio didn't! They never saw it as a kids film and that's why there was no kids stuff like toys out!) Filmation went to them and pitched a cartoon based on the movie and told them the film would be a hit with kids with toys and comics. The studio was shocked to hear this then told them they are not interested and passed. They then went to dic animation and stole filmations idea and started comics and toys as well behind filmations back!

Filmation was so ticked they made their own cartoon! (the one with the monkey) As a screw you to filmation they named their cartoon "the real" ghostbusters even though they are the copy and filmations came first! Worse filmation wanted toys for their new cartoon but no toy company would touch it in fear of getting sued by the movie studio! They ended up with a lesser studio to make the toys and lesser comics company for the comic and both died really fast!

Real ghostbusters is one of the greatest cartoons of all time but has a super nasty history behind it!

Joker will make a billion by next week and will be the most profitable "hero" (or is it villain) comic book movie. Even with sharing profits wb is going to make a lot of money from this. Don't be shocked if they greenlight a second movie.
