I am still curious what the brick and mortar stores were told about the series when they were asked to place their orders. Marvel released previews for 3 issues of very clear Spider-Man & MJ action, and then pulled a bait and switch. How many of the retailers cut their orders after issue #1 was released?
I'll ask my shop about it but given it's a Spider book and they're kind of big, I'd suspect they'd carry it anyways. Shops don't (or at least shouldn't) order with personal bias in mind. Though the shop I go to does recommend its employees read something to help inform the ordering so maybe it might carry some weight. That being said I'd probably not find out until tomorrow or Wednesday.

The first issue? I was intrigued by the off-beat approach to the character.
The second issue? This was more like 1962 over again. No super heroes, a reluctant hero. This Faye Ito? She is like this fantastic narrator or conscience that is verbally saying what is missing in this Alternate universe. I have been waiting for somebody to re-ignite the ANAD like it was starting again in 1961, and it has failed miserably up to now. All the ANAD is doing is rehashing tired old tropes from the day, but nobody ever immersed us in something as fresh and with as much delineation of a heroless society as the two Abrams have. They couldn’t have achieved this story in its form, in the ANAD. They had to take it out of the ANAD and lay it out flat with this new boy who doesn’t want to be a freak.... BUT THE WHOLE WORLD WANTS HIM TOO!
So, to me, this is Ultimate Spider-Man take two - a mixture of Bendis’ USM and Spidergirl’s MC2. But really? It’s what I’ve been looking for. A Spider-Man story that doesn’t have the legacy of the 616 Peter Parker. Someone just opened a doorway into a world where all the heroes are missing. Suddenly, out steps the first Super Hero. The Earth shakes.
(I’ve read the negative comments of Marvel movies by Coppola and Scorsese, and they must be unable to separate mega movies from the message embedded inside the Marvel ones. Coppola, I’m surprised at. He has more ambiance to Marvel because of his “Black Stallion” movie. Scorsese, he is steeped in brutality, so I understand his disconnection.
This Abrams cooperation on Spider-Man may show them another way).

To me, I was happy with how Ben was forced by Faye to confront he has a duty, and get on with it, because of her overbubbly ecstatic discovery of a super hero. I liked the pace at how Ben sort of rolled into the super heroing. Ben was sort of pulled along in this story to go where he didn’t want to go. I’ve experienced this myself in just this sort of setting. You don’t know where you’re going, you just go with the flow, and it’s exilerating.
To be honest, both Scorsese and Coppola have lots iof violence in their films ( Coppola's The Godfather Saga is not exactly Mary Poppins ( nor are films like Casino or Goodfellas by Scorsrse)). Personally, I. Do not disagree with their opinion on Marvel because despite the money they made. Why? 1:: Organized crime is my favorite film genre ( from Cagney, Bogart and Robinson to today's films). 2: I think DCU films beat Marvel. Such as Constantine, Dark Knight Series, Keaton Batman, RED, Aquaman, Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman. In fact, I think the only DC films that suck are Superman 4, Jonas Hex, Hallie Berry Catwoman and Clooney Batman

Yeah, it's not for me. I love Spider-Man because he doesn't give up. He can't give up. His sense of responsibility can't let him give up. It's how he keeps his uncle's memory alive and rights the wrong that killed him. I'd assume that's partially why he named his son Ben. So it's tough to read a version of the character that gave up completely, even on raising his son. He's gave up on Aunt May, MJ, his son, and the city. What a loser...
Also, like what was MJ doing on the bridge? Really didn't care for that first issue. Didn't care for Pichelli's depiction of her dying. Color me old fashioned but that was a bit much for me.

This was ok. I found the writing and plot to be a bit rudimentary, though, making it very predictable. The art is fooling me into thinking its better than it really is, so I'm probably dropping it now.
Every day is a gift, not a given right.
so issue 3 is delayed until December 18th, Issue 4 till late February. Wonder why? Art, rewrites?
