Early in Image's run, there was a month that they outsold both DC and Marvel. I want to say it was like 1992 or 1993. I can't seem to find it, but it was mentioned in the tv show "Secret History of Comics"

I tried google as well, couldn't find it. I'm willing to bet a single issue sold more than Marvel or DC for that month. Possibly Youngblood or Spawn. Maybe WildCats.
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:
Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.
