Trump continues to blame the Chinese for his incompetence.

President Donald Trump on Thursday was photographed reading from notes at the daily coronavirus task force press conference where the word "corona" was crossed out and replaced with "Chinese" to described COVID-19.

The photograph, taken by a Washington Post photographer, showed the word crossed out in what appeared to be Sharpie and in the president's own handwriting.

The image comes as Trump has ramped up his description of the coronavirus as a "Chinese virus" as he's been questioned about whether he considers the label to be racist.

"It's not racist at all," Trump told reporters Wednesday. "It comes from China, that's why."
Amid increased criticism for his administration's slow response to the outbreak, Trump has repeatedly highlighted his travel restrictions on China, which were instituted early on in the crisis.

"If people would have known about it, could have been stopped in place, it could have been stopped where it came from, China," Trump told reporters Thursday in defending his administration's efforts.

Congressional allies have risen to Trump's defense amid the backlash. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas., told reporters Wednesday that "China is to blame" because the Chinese culture is "where people eat bats and snakes and dog and things like that."
It's a matter of public record the Chinese government contacted the World Health Organization almost immediately after their discovery of COVID-19's severity.
It wasn't China's idea for Trump to hand off the problem to Mike Pence and fly off to Mar-a-lago for a few rounds of golf.

No, you don't get to defend China on this. The current crisis is a direct result of their incompetent and corrupt government:

-They knew about this by mid December at the latest: https://www.********/articles/how-it...ps-11583508932

-They ordered a lab that isolated the virus to destroy it in December: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/c...mber-rz055qjnj

-They arrested doctors who attempted to warn the world about the virus: https://www.thedailybeast.com/china-...s-are-plunging

-China stated that there were no new cases on 1/11/2020: https://www.washingtonpost.com/world...arther-faster/

-China told WHO that there's no sign of human to human transmission on 1/14/2020: https://twitter.com/WHO/status/12170...on-coronavirus

-They waited seven weeks to quarantine Wuhan and meanwhile allowed the bulk of their citizens to celebrate the Chinese New Year, letting them travel around the world infecting thousands of others and thereby rendering attempts to contain it all but impossible.

Now their official party organs are attempting to hide their culpability by blaming everybody but themselves.

I think this is a case of "and". China deserves a lot of blame, but Trump wasted valuable time pretending it was all a hoax by the left to bring down his Presidency.

Insisting on calling it the "China Virus" is another one of his dog whistles, even if the government over there acted.....well, they acted a bit like the orange idiot we have over here has been acting, where the truth gets punished for not supporting the official lies.

There's a difference between not taking something seriously enough and actively beating and torturing your own citizens in order to avoid embarrassment. Trumps a buffoon but the Chinese government is pure evil.

On a side note I'd like to point out that his use of"China Virus" occurred at pretty much the same time the Chinese govt. began claiming that the US military was responsible for the outbreak.

Anyhow, anybody believing China right now is a moron.

Oh, and if you really want to see something entertaining go back to January when the ban on travel to and from China was put in place.

The number of media outlets labeling it an overreaction is rather amusing.

The point is that the Democrats should be using this crisis as an opportunity to push forth legislation that at any other time would be considered politically unpalatable because of budgetary concerns, rather than letting themselves get outflanked from the left by the goddamned Republicans.

Trump is normally such a nationalistic bigot that I can't be sure the ban was actually about containment or just an excuse to play to his base. Something good might have come out of his nativism, but I'm pretty sure it was a side effect rather than the intention.

It was absolutely the latter, because if containing the virus was really the priority we would also have been using that time to stockpile supplies, setting up quarantine centers, developing treatments, etc. Instead we did the one thing that just so happens to line up with his xenophobic agenda, and then sat on our asses and did nothing for the next couple of months. Now we're caught totally off guard by the scale of the outbreak, despite having a good two months to prepare for it.

Out flanked or not, does it really matter who is putting out the agenda as long as it's put out though? If the democrats are outflanked by something people need and they wanted anyways, it's still a win win isn't it?

Trump is just pointing the finger at China, in his usual bigoted fashion, as a way to avoid taking any responsibility himself. Nothing is ever his fault.

There probably are legitimate criticisms about how the government of China handled the situation, but Trumps administration also definitely deserves a lot of blame for their handling of the situation here.

No, because what the GOP is proposing are all just half measures that won't come close to providing the necessary relief. Most of that $2000 stimulus is going directly into the pockets of landlords.

Correct, I was quick to underestimate China's poor behavior at the beginning of the crisis. I definitely should've looked harder at that.
However, my post was more of an indictment of Trump and his incompetent response than an exoneration of China.
Trump endangered the lives of Americans with his lack of concern and ignorance of the advice of experts.
Anyone believing otherwise right now is a moron.

That's what they've always done, and since they didn't win the Senate yesterday they're not going to be passing more bills then they did before. Outflanked by the left by Republicans LOL
