I'm convinced the GOP is evil and corrupt at its core. Well, maybe evil is a bit overboard but it's something pretty close.
I don’t think, given the reality of their policies and their entire party platform and the people they force into office though blatant cheating or otherwise shady means, that ‘evil’ is too strong a word at all. At this point, ‘corrupt as hell’ isn’t strong enough anymore.

In 2016, my 60-at-the-time white, ‘independent’ (Republican pretending to be undecided, basically...), conservative Christian Promise Keeper, Blue Lives Matter, ‘Antifa are the real Fascists’, toxically ‘masculine’, ‘emotions are for ethnic people’ Navy veteran father refused to vote at all for president because Hillary is a woman (sorry. I mean #butheremailllllllllllllzzzz #Benghaziiiiiiiiiiiiii) and Trump was, well...Trump. As much as he hates progressive ideals like treating Muslims like human beings, or holding police accountable for shooting unarmed black men in the back, or LGBT+ rights and not being allowed to default treat young women as sex objects, he couldn’t support a man like Trump. (And let me tell you...considering that his son is a gay man and an atheist, his daughter is a rape survivor, his kids both have had multiple roommates and friends who are Muslim, whose son’s best friend/soulmate/‘lobster’ is a person of color...? Dad is batting a perfect score if his goal is ‘not having my kids at my funeral’...)

Fast forward to last month, when he uses my life-long pro-choice, pro-equality Democrat mother’s credit card to buy $150 worth of Trump paraphernalia, including a camo MAGA hat. And got mad at her for being upset at him doing that in her name. When confronted, all he could say was that he ‘doesn’t want to live in a socialist country’ because....well, he isn’t sure since his dream is to live in the world of ST:tNG when ‘humanity has gotten past all the greed, racism, sexism and all of that nonsense that’s holding us back’. When asked if he supports Trump now, he said yes, because ‘jobs’. Like the one he lost when his company decided that hiring two fresh-out-of-college kids to do his job for a quarter of what they were paying him was more financially sound for them than keeping him on for two more years when he could have retired with a pension, leaving him jobless and rapidly depleting his nest egg on pyramid schemes, religious bullshit and GOP fundraisers.

This is the Trump base. Scared old white men willing to vote against their own (and their kids’...and their grandkids’...) interests, undereducated simpletons who vote according to what the stars of Duck Dynasty tell them, and sociopathic lunatics who would rather ‘stick it to libtards’ and revel in ‘libtard’ tears than actually work to make the world better for everyone.

Because to them, sharing what they were handed on a silver platter by their parents is the same as oppression.

Most of my brothers and sisters are Never Trumpers and I can talk to them. And these are mostly we older ones, over 50. My two youngest siblings are never Trumpers alos. But the scary thing is it's the younger adult nephews that are the ones who we gave up on, and one younger sister and one older sister. Some of my cousins are always posting typical pro Trump memes. I have total of 10 siblings. My older sister is always watching Fox news and is convinced that Obama was worse than Trump. SMH

And it won’t matter. The GOP will still remain a viable party, because the majority of the electorate is numbed by reality TV, Netflix and chill, and propaganda that supports their bigotry and ignorance, because growing as a person is too hard when Real Housewives is on...

America isn’t going to recover. Trump may be removed, but the GOP has forced so many unqualified, partisan judges into lifetime positions that regressivism and bigotry will be the status quo for years to come, and with that degree of inherent obstructionism, nothing will change until it’s too late to matter. And everyone who supported the GOP in their quest for power at any cost? They’re as much to blame as the monsters and con men and man babies their party keep electing with the support of the money, influence and votes of supporters who choose party over the good of the public, whether they are never trumpers or not.

    And they don’t care.

Because why should they care about the Constitution, or precedent, or rule of law, or human rights or basic decency at all when they have power, money, and a willfully undereducated base who will never stop supporting them, no matter what it costs them if they can ‘stick it to the libs’, no matter what filth and garbage they shovel up from behind the chickenhawk coop and call a valid candidate...?
Sometimes I feel like this is a RW equivalent of the Invasion of the Body Snatchers and we are surrounded by the pod people. But the difference is they go along with the transformation willingly.

It would be terrifying, if it wasn’t so soul-shatteringly depressing.

My dad's cousins, who both hate Trump yet willingly voted for him during the 2016 election, recently told me that I should make my late, Republican voting, grandfather proud by listening to Fox news since that would be what he wanted me to do and that I should learn to be a better Granddaughter after I told them I'd be sticking with PBS news hour and Npr.

So yes, I understand where you and Iron Maiden are coming from.

What's nuts right now is I have two friends who are on the opposite side being just as viscous about Warren, keep in mind both are progressives, but they dislike teachers , so it's like being battered in the wind from different angles.

Trump Accuses Pence Aide Jennifer Williams Of ‘Presidential Attack’

Williams testified in the impeachment probe that Trump’s July phone call with the Ukrainian president was “unusual and inappropriate.” This leaves Red Grant in a bind, he either supports his aide, or throws her under the bus to stay in Trump's good graces. Shit, who am I kidding? Look for Williams to get the ax by midweek, if not sooner.

Pelosi Says Trump Welcome To Testify In Impeachment Inquiry

The House Speaker said the president is welcome to appear or answer questions in writing, if he chooses. Nice try, Nancy, but Trump, for all his bluster, doesn't have the balls to testify. It's safer for him (and the GOP) to continue being a gutless bully and attacking everyone via Twitter. Here's more from Nancy....

    **********

Nancy Pelosi: Trump’s Actions ‘So Much Worse’ Than What Nixon Did

The House speaker suggested former President Richard Nixon at least “cared about the country enough” to resign. And therein lies the problem, Trump only cares about himself and will happily let his family, his party, and the country burn to save his ass from impeachment.

    **********

Poll: Americans Divided On Impeachment After 1st Day Of Hearings

In a new HuffPost/YouGov survey, 45% of the public says President Trump should be impeached and removed. And a divided country is just what the GOP (and, by extension, Vlad Putin) wants.

Dan Rather Accuses Mitch McConnell Of Being Part Of Donald Trump ‘Cult’

“Cults generally don’t end well,” Rather warned on CNN. I'm of the opinion it's more a case of Moscow Mitch keeping Trump at arm's length rather than being a full blown member of the cult like the bulk of the GOP. Turtle Boy only cares about using Trump to stack the courts, the rest of the circus doesn't matter to him.

Yeah, I see a lot of enraged anti-Warren stuff and all the same 'I'd vote for a woman but Not THAT woman' all over again. Suddenly, Warren is a neo-liberal corporatist.

This was, of course, exactly what was predicted.

51% believe his actions were wrong and he should be impeached and removed from office.

Reminds me of a discussion I had with my husband recently. We talked about how some see Warren as a 'Socialist' others see her as a 'Capitalist'. She is going to end up getting it from both sides, those to the right are going to attack her for being a 'Socialist', while those on the far left are attacking her for being a 'Capitalist'.

As to what what Darkspellmaster said, when I read it, I got this image of a cult where they place you in front of a TV screen and force you to watch in order to be indoctrinated into the cult's way of thinking. It's downright creepy.

I figured this was going to happen eventually.

China aims to reduce its dependence on America by 'decoupling' from the dollar, ANZ bank says

According to analysts at ANZ, the trade war is causing the world's second-biggest economy to move away from the dollar, and instead upping its holdings of other foreign currencies.

"The ongoing trade war and geopolitical issues have increased the risk of a financial decoupling between China and the US," said Raymond Yeung, Greater China chief economist, in a note.

"Although China still allocates a high share of its FX exchange reserves to the US dollar, estimated at around 59% as of June 2019, the pace of diversification into other currencies will likely quicken going forward," Yeung said.

China's currency, the yuan, is dollar-pegged currently and in the last year became a weapon to fight back against Trump's trade war. In August, China let its currency fall, letting it decline to make Chinese goods cheaper to export, and American goods more expensive in light of tariff hikes ó a move that shocked markets.

Capitalist-to-My-bones Warren is very much a compromise vote to me to advance items on my personal list of preferences that we're aligned on. That's true of any Democrat and Sanders as well.

But we've got a lot of people on the internet who misunderstand how to apply militancy.

Hearing all these horror stories with families, it's a miracle things turned out well my family. All of them hate Trump and the GOP. Maybe it helped my grandpa has been a huge union guy all his life but it is kind of nice to have a non dysfunctional family.

I've never thought the GOP would convict. Even if more people come to view his removal is a good idea I don't expect the GOP to convict. I do expect it to be an anchor in 2020 for Republicans up and down the ticket.

That much was a given, especially with the GOP vowing to defend Trump to the death. The important thing is that the truth about the shitty things Trump had done is being exposed to the light of day for all to see while Republicans publicly bend over backwards to protect him and excuse his indefensible actions. Sure, the right wing/MAGA lemmings mainlining Faux News 24/7 won't believe any of it, but if it convinces independents and voters on the fence that giving Trump another four years would be a horrible mistake, then the hearings will have served their purpose.
