Anyhow, there's 1400 pages to the Dem's plan and those are just a handful of the goodies they've stuffed in there. Their entire plan is to reject the Senate's bill (which Schumer was just praising as bipartisan a day or two ago) and hope that the public blames the Republicans.

    That's it.

If they were serious about it they'd strip all the "corporate welfare" and pass a clean bill. But they have no such interest and most of the people on this comment board will pretend otherwise.

Link please. Because there is nothing on Darman's about that.

Do you support the unaccountable GOP $500 billion fund for corporations?

He'll also be 77 years old on election day. I don't know if he wants another term.

Granted, he has enjoyed being one of the most powerful politicians in the country as one of the key swing votes.

Instead, Sanders is about as involved as Biden is, despite Biden not being a sitting Senator or government official.

I’m glad she voted no, but, no, a “not there” vote (which isn’t a vote to be clear) doesn’t count for anything. It changed the margins needed for passing or defeating a bill. Sanders could very well have risked a horrible bill to pass because he couldn’t be bothered to do his job and vote his conscience.

He would’ve acted quicker and ensured that people coming from international territories were screened at airports and tested if their symptoms matched. He would’ve ensured that testing was prioritized over stopping a stock market fall. He would’ve pushed for drive thru testing sites. He talked about this all at the debate, in his address today, and has pointed to experts whose opinions were instrumental to the anti-Ebola effort under the Obama Administration. Just because one might argue it doesn’t go far enough doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to his ideas. That seems like more of a bad faith attack.
To be clear, the bill needs 60 votes to pass. Sanders isn't changing the margins at all, even if it was a tie. They don't need 50% plus one. They need 60 out of 100 to pass, or 41 out of 100 to reject.

Here's a twitter thread pointing out elements of Pelosi's bill that do not directly seem to tie into directly responding to COVID-19.

I think the dismissal of vote-by-mail as not relevant to this crisis given how many primary elections have had to be delayed demonstrates the slant of this particular poster. However, I’m certainly understanding how the other things, like corporate board diversity, isn’t necessarily relevant to this crisis and seems like a pork-barrel provision.

Both Dems and Republicans tried to push some bull crap in the stimulus bill. Abortion, climate change, voter rights. They are important topics to address but not in a bill meant to help the American people through the crisis in memory. It makes me thing neither side wants to get this done.

Um, which bill is being discussed in that twitter thread that Mr. Mets has provided? The text doesn't seem to match H.R. 6201.

    Currently looking at H.R. 6201, S. 3548, and H.R. 6074.

    Found it. https://apps.npr.org/documents/docum...ted-House-Bill

A permanent shift to nationwide vote-by-mail is going beyond the scope of something meant to address the current crisis.

It's defensible, but it requires serious debate, and this is not the best time for that.

Is it really that hard to just make a bill that says

    1. Give regular people these things

    -tax relief
-a monthly check for somewhere between 1k-2k until this emergency ends
    -unemployment relaxed
    -paid sick leave

    2. Give corporations
-a stimulus to survive this if they had to shut down
-a tax break for not laying people off

    3. Essential healthcare services money necessary to conduct operations

Good god! There is a sociopath in the Whitehouse! I'm generally a non partisan person, but if you open up the U.S. for business in less than a month, the cornavirus will spread through the United States like a wildflower.

Every other western nation is going into a strict lockdown, while Trump is advocating opening the country back up for commerce in possibly less than a month. That is insane!!! New York is turning into the next Spain & Italy.

As a Canadian sharing the same landmass this freaks me out, Canada needs to build a wall now!!!

Seeing the pandemic crash into primary season, as well as the fear that it might stretch out to the general election, is the reason it's being discussed in context of the current crisis.
