Mike Pence on Meet The Press...Chuck played some clips of Republican pundits saying that the democrats are using the coronavirus to smear trump. Chuck says, "This sounds like gaslighting. Who's actually doing this? Name some names." Pence tap danced and said something about the NY Times and the then danced some more to claim what a great job Trump is doing.

Go listen to grunge and shut up lol.

No just in terms of population sizes. Baby boomers have taken up the bulk of political discourse forever and they are on the way out while the millenials are coming in

Boomers hold sway because of this: voter turn out.

I am not happy that people my age voted for Trump, and I wish younger voters would get off their asses and vote. We could have a Democratic majority Government if they would put doen their damn phones and go to the polls (and get off my lawn!!)

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

SUPERUNKNOWN by SOUDGARDEN WAS THE BEST ALBUM EVER!! SHUT UP!

More seriously, I mostly agree with you.

Sanders is on This Week with George S. and had he not said it there, I would have here. George asked him about why he doesn't have more African American support and Sanders was like, "Whoa! We actually have big support among younger AA voters." But yeah, it's no secret that older voters are more reliable than younger voters and the baby boomer generation is the biggest block. And yes, older African Americans are boomers who are leaning towards Biden, cuz...nostalgia.

I still think we have to make a massive distinction between older black voters in the South who lean more conservative anyways and the black populace overall. They are not a monolith and the black people in Chicago and New York are not the same as the black people voting in South Carolina or Alabama.

Like honestly South Carolina will be called within 5 minutes for Trump on election night.

Right now if you look at the map of states that have a chance to go Democrat you can go back to the states Obama carried in 2008 or 2012. Joe Biden is only strong in Florida, Delaware, Indiana and Michigan. Then you have toss ups in North Carolina, Ohio, New Mexico, and Pennysvania which could be either/or. Then Sanders is squarely ahead in California, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, Colorado, Washington, New Jersey, Maine, Vermont, Virgina, Wisconsin,, Minnesota, and Maryland. Then he also squarely beat Biden in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Pennylsvania.

I just don't know if it's a smart strategy at this point to ask the map that wins for Democrats to vote for someone who is going to lose the majority of the states they need for the general in the primary. Especially if it comes off the backs of states like South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisianna and Missouri. Because I know who they are voting for.

Yep! Looking at what percent of the population is in each demographic, people over 40 comprise of about 2/3 of all voters. This is why politicians pander to them and their wants and needs so much more. In order for this to change, millennials and gen-z will have to show a sustainable pattern of showing up and voting at similar levels as the older age groups.

Even though in the West we tend to think of socialism as some dead and discredited ideology, the evidence just doesn't really bear that out. The first question you really have to ask is, if socialism is really so bad, then why did so many people turn to it in the first place? And make no mistake, the communists in the USSR, China, Vietnam, North Korea, Cuba, and just about everywhere else all had overwhelming public support when they took power, it was hardly the case that collectivism was forcibly imposed on an unwilling populace who really just wanted free markets and property rights, or whatever nonsense you might have heard spewed by American think tanks. Granted, the same cannot be said for most of those Eastern European Soviet satellite states, but by and large what they really resented was being ruled by a foreign power rather than socialism as such, especially given that many of those policies were not all that different from the social democratic systems of Western Europe at the time.

The retreat of the left in many former socialist countries and the rise of the far right isn't driven by any great love for plutocrats, but rather by the right co-opting a lot of that populist rhetoric by directing the anger away from landlords and financiers, and toward minority and immigrant communities. The difference though, is that while right wingers might have successful borrowed the propaganda tactics of the populist left, they don't really have genuine concern for the well-being of average folks and no concrete plans in place to help them, and inevitably all of the emotional appeals to the sensibilities of the working class will blow up in their faces once people find out that their promises were lies all along. Moderates seem to have this fantasy that this fixation with populism is just a passing fad and that in due course the poors will go back to being happy being told what to do by their betters, but moderates have believed that ever since the French Revolution and I don't see that working out for them any time soon.

Really? Trump risked impeachment to go after Biden by smearing his son. Had not the GOP been under orders to protect Trump at all costs, he’d be gone today. I doubt Sanders is even on his radar.

"While Sanders has come under criticism from some opponents because he identifies as a democratic socialist, majorities of Democratic primary voters in California and Texas have at least a somewhat favorable view of socialism, and it is viewed more positively than capitalism. This is related to vote: Sanders' supporters have generally more positive views of socialism than do Biden's."
