After Mitch McConnell Named WholeFoods Magazine's Man of the Year, Twitter Users Call for Boycott of Supermarket Company

WholeFoods Magazine has named Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell as its Man of the Year for championing a hemp growing project in his home state of Kentucky. Twitter users have cried foul, though, and now they are trying to boycott the Whole Foods Supermarkets chain, which has nothing to do with the magazine.
The magazine, which focuses on wellness and natural remedies, begins its tribute with, "'hemp hero,' 'Cannabis champion' and 'climate villain.'

It goes on to say, "Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has been called all this and more. Odds are, you have an opinion about the Republican senator from Kentucky, and regardless of whether that opinion is positive or not, one thing is certain: Mitch McConnell has done a tremendous amount to influence the natural products industry in 2019, and what he has set in motion will continue to impact this industry for a long time to come."
Twitter users—misinterpreting the WholeFoods magazine as being a part of the Whole Foods Supermarket chain—have responded by threatening to boycott the market.

"I won't be shopping at whole foods since they have named Mitch McConnell POTY," said Twitter user KrissKringle.

"Whole Foods gave Mitch McConnell an award for supporting cannabis. F**k Whole Foods," said Twitter user DrKC4.

Eventually, users began to realize the two entities were unrelated.

"Don't know what website or page you found that image, but it doesn't look like magazine & store are related. (But as was pointed out, being owned by Amazon is enough reason to boycott Whole Foods Market.)," said user John Leeson.

Ken Cuccinelli walked into a bar. And Martin O’Malley lit into him.

A liberal ex-governor walks into a bar, followed by a conservative Trump administration official.

Instead of a punchline, what followed, one witness said, was a “shame-invoking tirade” by Martin O’Malley, the former Democratic governor of Maryland, directed atKen Cuccinelli II, the former Virginia attorney general who is acting deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

The two political polar opposites crossed paths Wednesday night at the Dubliner, a Capitol Hill Irish pub popular on Thanksgiving Eve with Gonzaga High School graduates. Both men attended the school, graduating five years apart in the 1980s.

Siobhan Arnold, who was visiting from Philadelphia, had just met O’Malley at the bar when Cuccinelli walked in. Soon the two men were face-to-face, she said, with O’Malley excoriating Cuccinelli over the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

TikTok’s owner is helping China’s campaign of repression in Xinjiang, report finds

BEIJING — Chinese tech giants including ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, and Huawei Technologies are working closely with the Communist Party to censor and surveil Uighur Muslims in China’s western region of Xinjiang, according to a new report published Thursday.

New evidence of links between the security apparatus and China’s biggest tech companies comes just days after TikTok shut down the account of an American teenager who’d sought to highlight China’s human rights abuses in Xinjiang during what began as a makeup video.

After widespread condemnation for censoring an American, TikTok backtracked and reactivated the account of Feroza Aziz, a 17-year-old high school junior in New Jersey.

In a detailed new report, experts at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute’s International Cyber Policy Centre concluded that many Chinese tech companies “are engaged in deeply unethical behavior in Xinjiang, where their work directly supports and enables mass human rights abuses.”
“Some of these companies lead the world in cutting-edge technology development, particularly in the AI and surveillance sectors,” Fergus Ryan, Danielle Cave and Vicky Xiuzhong Xu write in the report. “But this technology development is focused on servicing authoritarian needs, and as these companies go global (an expansion often funded by [Chinese] loans and aid) this technology is going global as well.”

This should give Western policymakers pause, they said.
Many Western policymakers have become increasingly concerned about the potentially nefarious capabilities of Chinese technology.

Some members of Congress have asked American intelligence services to determine whether TikTok, a short-video app that has exploded in popularity among young people, poses national security risks. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has blacklisted Huawei, concerned that the Chinese government will have access to information that passes through its new 5G technology.

These concerns relate to the use of the technology abroad, but the ASPI report says China’s security apparatus is already harnessing the power of the country’s innovations to further its aims at home.

    OH WBE-EEeeeeeee….

The Republican hoping to unseat Ilhan Omar has had her official Twitter account closed after she called for the high-profile Democrat to be hanged.
Danielle Stella's campaign account tweeted: "If it is proved @ilhanMN passed sensitive info to Iran, she should be tried for #treason and hanged", according to The Washington Times.
The account later linked to a picture of a stick figure hanging from a gallows, the paper said,
On Thursday the account, @2020mncongress, had been suspended. A Twitter spokesperson told The Washington Times it had been permanently suspended.

Ilhan Omar's Republican opponent in Twitter ban over 'hanging' posts

A campaign account for Danielle Stella, a pro-Trump Republican candidate for Congress, was banned from Twitter after it published a violent comment about the Democrat she hopes to unseat next year, Minnesota representative Ilhan Omar.

Stella’s campaign Twitter account, @2020MNCongress, featured at least two posts involving the idea of Omar being hanged, according to the Washington Times, which broke the story of her suspension.
The tweets concerned an unsubstantiated allegation that Omar – one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress – shared sensitive information with Qatar, which then wound up with Iran.

A spokesperson for Omar previously told the Jerusalem Post of the claim: “Since the day she was elected, Saudi Arabian trolls and mouthpieces have targeted Omar with misinformation and conspiracy theories.”

An initial tweet from Stella’s campaign account reportedly said: “If it is proven [Omar] passed sensitive info to Iran, she should be tried for #treason and hanged.”

The Washington Times said the account “subsequently tweeted the link to an article that aggregated her remark, accompanied by a crude depiction of a stick figure hanging from gallows”.

The @2020MNCongress account cannot be viewed. Text on the page reads “account suspended” and “Twitter suspends accounts which violate the Twitter Rules”.

Trump could be handing a big win to Iran and Russia by withholding military aid to Lebanon as it spirals into a crisis

President Donald Trump's decision to freeze millions in security assistance to Ukraine has been dominating headlines lately given its central role in the impeachment inquiry.

But less attention has been granted to the Trump administration's ongoing hold on $105 million in congressionally-approved military aid to Lebanon as it faces an escalating economic and political crisis — with mass protests occurring nationwide.

The White House has not explained why the Foreign Military Funding for the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) has been held up for months, despite strong support for it within the Pentagon, State Department, and National Security Council — a situation that has parallels to Trump's freeze on military aid to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, congressional lawmakers and experts on the region are warning the aid freeze plays right into Iran and Russia's hands.

Tulsi Gabbard went on Joe Rogan's podcast to complain and moan about how the 2020 candidates, politics, and the media should be condemning Hillary Clinton for calling her a Russian asset.

Thou really protest too much, especially since Hillary never mentioned her by name, but the article discussing her concerns decided she must have meant Tulsi.

Her obsession over Hillary isn't healthy, and doesn't look good on a supposed Presidential candidate. It makes her soudn like Trump.

Especially when she uses phrases like "Clinton machine" and "media establishment". It really makes her look like a Republican more than anything.

There's probably some shady reason why Trump is supporting the Hong Kong protesters. Like a blind squirrel finding an acorn, Trump occasionally does the right thing, usually for the wrong reason.

Theres some talk on the more anti corporate sides of the web that HK isnt something to actually give a **** about compared to chile. Now I dont know enough to agree or disagree but their general idea is something like this....

The law HK is protesting against was being used on a guy who murdered someone, HK itself is a vice den of greed, corruption and weird capitalist shenanigans that force many into debt but are useful for the elites, the protests were organized by the CIA. Chile on the otherhand has (again) the CIA ousting another left leaning latin ametican leader.
