Ancient and very senile Alaska Congressman Don Young has allegedly assaulted another journalist, headbutting a camera rather than answer questions. He might be the only Congressman who's served long enough to have been around during Watergate, so this might be reliving some bad memories for him.

Pretty soon you'll be able to start a tag-team division.

Lots of Job Hunting, but No Job, Despite Low Unemployment

“I had to keep track somehow,” said Ms. Ward, who has maintained job-hunting diaries since the 1990s.

Even in some of the hottest labor markets in the country — let alone lagging rural regions and former industrial powerhouses — workers, including skilled ones like Ms. Ward, say they cannot find jobs that provide a middle-class income and don’t come with an expiration date.

After more than a decade as production manager at a small advertising agency, Ms. Ward was let go after the firm lost a major account. Over the last three and a half years, she has worked temporary stints, and bolstered her skills by taking a project-management course at a nearby college. But she has not been able to find a steady, full-time job.

So for her, the reports of low unemployment rates and employer complaints of labor shortages are puzzling.
The continuing strength of the labor market has been one of the most remarkable economic achievements since the recession petered out. One hundred and eight months of consecutive job gains have coaxed discouraged and disabled Americans back into the work force and raised wages and hours, particularly for those at low end of the pay scale.

But beneath the clear benefits of the economic expansion, there is an undertow of anxiety, heightened recently by fears of slowing growth around the globe and in the United States.

“We’re not focusing enough on the people who have continued to be left behind by this recovery,” said Martha Gimbel, a manager of economic research at Schmidt Futures, a philanthropic initiative. “We have not talked enough about the workers who are still stuck even in a labor market that is this competitive.”

Most of these people do not show up in the stunningly low official unemployment rate of 3.5 percent, the lowest in a half-century. Working even one hour during the week when the Labor Department does its employment survey keeps you out of the jobless category.

Many more show up in a broader measure, which includes people who are working part time but would prefer full-time employment, and those who want to work but have given up an active job search. That rate in September was 6.9 percent, some 11 million people.

But there are also many others, like Ms. Ward, who work temporary jobs for months at a time and are not necessarily captured in either measure. And millions of contract workers — freelancers, consultants, Lyft drivers — lack benefits, regular schedules and job security. They have found a foothold, but it rests on loose rock.
    ------------------------------------
U.S. Added 128,000 Jobs in October; Unemployment at 3.6%

    The Takeaway

The American job market has lost some momentum, but a major auto strike was not enough to knock it off the road in October.

Ordinarily, a gain of 128,000 jobs would count as an unimpressive month. But the figure looks stronger accounting for the strike at General Motors, which shaved close to 50,000 workers from the employment rolls. United Automobile Workers union members have since approved a contract and ended the strike, and the November report should get a lift from their return to work.

Even accounting for the strike, however, job growth has been slowing. Hiring has been particularly weak in manufacturing, a result of trade tensions and the cooling of the global economy. And there have been hints that the weakness is spreading — confidence among corporate leaders is falling, business investment is in a slump, and companies are posting fewer job openings.

Warren just won. The biggest attack line against her was that she wasn’t being honest by acknowledging tax increases on her healthcare plan. She just released a plan with no tax increases on the middle class. That’s going to be good enough for 98% of the country

It does assume 70 percent reductions in Medicare drug prices for brand-name drugs and lower than anticipated administrative costs.

    Default Let's Talk VP - Warren/?

Let's say that Warren wins the Primary, who do you think she should pick as a running mate?

    Warren/Bennet
    Warren/Booker
    Warren/Bullock
    Warren/Buttigieg
    Warren/Castro
    Warren/Harris
    Warren/Klobuchar
    Warren/Swalwell
    Warren/Yang

Or someone else? Maybe someone who didn't run for president.

Honestly I’d rather keep the Senators in the Senate and quite frankly, you don’t want a pick that will turn off her base. So Booker, Harris, Kllbuchae, Bennet, Swalwell, and Bullock are a no.

Maybe Yang. Buttiegieg is another possibility. I think Beto could be a strong choice there, if he delivers Texas you win and he’s young and has shown a fire recently.

Political box ticking dictates a white woman as the nominee needs a minority man as a running mate, so either Booker or Castro would be the favorites. But then again, neither of those two are exactly beloved among the demographic that they would be expected to be pander to, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Buttigieg made it onto the ticket just based on likability.

Ideally someone who can help her carry PA or Florida.

Let's see how her opponents take it apart first before we declare she won.

As I see it, the best VP candidate needs to be:

    1. Under age 60
    2. Someone voters can envision as president someday, if not now.
    3. Someone with experience and competence in one or more aspects of politics and government.
    4. Someone who balances the presidential nominee out. The worst choice would be someone who ends up as a yes-man or yes-woman.
    5. Someone the presidential nominee can work with, even if they don't always agree with each other.
    6. Someone balances out the ticket. Someone who comes from a different part of the country, someone who has a different back ground from her, someone that can bring in a wider group of voters.

Someone with heavy foreign policy experience is who I would want her to pick.

That would be a great skill for a Warren VP choice to have.
