Trump takes immediate step to try to curb new inspector general’s autonomy, as battle over stimulus oversight begins

Immediately after signing the historic $2 trillion coronavirus aid package, President Trump sought to curb oversight provisions in the bill by asserting presidential authority over a new inspector general’s office.

The move could presage a major battle between the White House and Capitol Hill as the Trump administration moves to implement the new law.

In a White House signing statement released Friday evening, Trump questioned the constitutionality of the law’s requirement that a new Special Inspector General for Pandemic Recovery notify Congress immediately if the administration “unreasonably” withholds information requested by investigators.

The new inspector general, who will be nominated by the White House and confirmed by the Senate, will be tasked with monitoring how the Treasury Department extends loans and loan guarantees to businesses, among other things.

‘The comedy routine America needs right now’: The Cuomo brothers return to prime time

Last week, New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D) and his younger brother, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, went viral after getting into what appeared to be a spur-of-the-moment debate on live television over who is their mother’s favorite son. So when people learned the elder Cuomo would be back on his brother’s show Monday, anticipation for another night of entertainment was high.

    The brothers didn’t disappoint.

They got into it early when Chris, famous for loudly interrupting his guests, attempted to cut off Andrew, who had been talking for several minutes, so the show could break for commercials.

“Governor, I’m sorry to interrupt you,” Chris said.

“Then don’t,” Andrew shot back. “If you’re sorry about interrupting me, don’t interrupt me.”

“I know, but you have a little bit of Pop’s gift where you kind of keep going,” the anchor responded, referring to the pair’s late father, former New York governor and revered Democratic Party figure Mario Cuomo.

Apparently Trump has been feuding with that Tribe for years over casino rights and general racism, naturally abusing his position for profit as is the way of Trump.

They don't have the credibility to make that joke when previously they supported China purging their landlord class with gusto. Gun violence is a problem in America, definitely.

Please don't make me defend Pwrdon.

The joke was obviously about the fact that innocent people get shot by authorities in America all the time and nothing is done about it.

Because most of the time the shooting folks want to get mad about is the one that tends to be justified.

We don't see or at least hear about marches (until someone asks about it) the cops shooting a little girl who was asleep in her room.
Or the doctor with his hands up trying to protect his client from being shot.
But we will raise heck about the guy breaking the law stealing cigarettes or trying to rob a police officer in a parking lot.

And the push back is mainly due to those folks being BLACK. The blackness offends the trolls and alt right.

So the result is when cop use whites as target practice-guess who gets no justice. Because the resentment to black folks saying "we need shootings looked at" somehow only means when cop shoots black folks. When common sense says look at ALL of them.

Even if you say all those black shootings were justified, I bet a lot of those white ones were NOT. But EGO to validate folks you don't like concerns get in the way.

Your RESENTMENT of folks can't be so great that you can't see reality.

Just like with a certain comic group-who is cheering the closing of comic book stores by this virus as victory against SJW and their attacking of creators of color, LGBTQ & women.

Yup..... Trump does have a long history of clashes with Native Americans (2016 article Washington Post)

Donald Trump claimed that Indian reservations had fallen under mob control. He secretly paid for more than $1 million in ads that portrayed members of a tribe in Upstate New York as cocaine traffickers and career criminals. And he suggested in testimony and in media appearances that dark-skinned Native Americans in Connecticut were faking their ancestry.

“I think I might have more Indian blood than a lot of the so-called Indians that are trying to open up the reservations,” Trump said during a 1993 radio interview with shock jock Don Imus.

Trump’s harsh rhetoric on Native Americans was part of his aggressive war on the expanding Native American casino industry during the 1990s, which posed a threat to his gambling empire.
Take note that the article recounts how Roger Stone was helping Trump with strategies to fight against expansion of the casino permits for Native Americans and created a fake group called the Institute for Law & Safety bankrolled by Trump's casino company that ran a series of TV and print ads against the Mohawk Tribe asserting that they had ties to organized crime. The ads were designed by Roger Stone

Trump and Stone never reported the ad spending as a lobbying effort, as state law required, and acknowledged their role only after regulators launched an investigation. In a deposition, Stone told regulators that the only reason the organization was set up was to hide Trump’s involvement because a “pro-family” group would have more credibility with the public. The state lobbying commission imposed its largest-ever civil penalty — a $250,000 fine — and Trump and his associates agreed to issue a public apology.
It seems to me that Trump has a long history of getting away with crap and getting slapped on the wrist when he does get caught.

Spite and resentment are huge drivers of American politics.

It was a joke in horrible taste that belittled tragedies that affect real people. And the message of the "joke" was clear.

Has he really come over as Presidential in his handling of the virus crisis?

In the bits I’ve seen of his actions on BBC site, my gut reaction is that he is very clearly putting New York’s interests over the rest of the USA.

I can understand that..of course his responsibility is to New Yorkers...but it’s not really Presidential, is it?
