Let's say that the Classic Rodan from the first movie (not an energy tosser like later), rises from the volcano and annoyed by the noise flies over bay. The ships all will have AA guns with radar equipped proximity fuses plus their main guns. If you want to throw in some WWII fighters from the carriers, go ahead.
The big ships all have armor piercing shells for the big guns. Is Rodan toast? Can he do anything to the ships?
In the movie, conventional large missiles did wound one of them but F-86 rockets had no effect. As for the ships, BBs did withstand the blast of above sea nukes without sinking. Didn't look so hot but didn't sink.
