Kevin Smith Confirms Strange Adventures is Dead, Reveals His Bizarro Story for the Show

Smith revealed the cancellation as part of a broader geek news segment in which he spoke about this week's cancellation of projects like Batgirl and Scoob!: Holiday Haunt. Along the way, he suggested that the casting he had considered for the short was Nicolas Cage.
"Both of these original DC properties we'll be creating for HBO Max will be unlike anything seen on television," Berlanti said of Strange Adventures and the Green Lantern show when the two were announced. "An anthology series of cautionary tales set in a world where superpowers exist, and, in what promises to be our biggest DC show ever made, we will be going to space with a Green Lantern television series, but I can't reveal any more about that just yet."
There has been no official word yet on Green Lantern, but most fans assume it will be another casualty of the Warner Bros. Discovery regime. Smith agrees, but cautioned listeners that he had no inside information and was just going on gut feeling. Smith likely torpedoed any chances he has of working with WBD in the near future, joining the chorus of voices that decried Warner Bros. Discovery and CEO David Zaslav's apparent disdain for HBO Max and blasting the company for axing projects that were already in post-production.

Kevin Smith Updates HBO Max's Strange Adventures & Green Lantern
Speaking with his co-host Ralph Garman about the controversy surrounding the recent run of HBO Max decision, Smith revealed that he and Eric Carrasco were tapped about two years ago to write an episode of "Strange Adventures" that would've focused on the secret origin of Bizarro and feature Jimmy Olsen & Perry White. Smith goes on the describe how the episode would play out (definitely worth a listen because it sounds great) and reveals that they wanted to approach Nicolas Cage to play Bizarro. During the conversation, we also learned that the series was meant to serve as an anthology series to introduce DCU characters that weren't Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman.

The Warner Bros team in charge at the time was apparently willing to spend $16-$20M per episode and had creative team pairings working up scripts to submit to make up the first season. But then Smith dropped the hammer, revealing that he was given a heads-up by Carrasco ("'Strange Adventures' is officially dead") that the project wasn't moving forward. And then, though he admits he doesn't know it for a fact, Smith is pretty much feeling that it's the same thing for the "Green Lantern" series. Here's a look at the clip:

Now the green lantern movie could still happen since green lantern is one of the original members of the justice league and a major major superhero for dc, but the hbo max show?most likely not so far.

Black Canary from Harley Quinn's movie?

Can't say I am sorry about that.

You can if you call Asylum Studios and let them do it.

Everything is rumored to be on the chopping block.

That said, I don't love that Black Canary so I'm fine with the project being cancelled.
    May we never forget:

Warner Bros. Abandons Another DC Superhero Project Amid Cancellation Spree
Strange Adventures may have been one to fly under the radar of many, but the loss is still a tragic one. The series marks another loss under Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav's new regime, following the cancelations of Batgirl, Wonder Twins, and Supergirl.

The general concept of an anthology series of lesser-known heroes is an intriguing one that had great potential to expand the DCEU in a way that it desperately needs. The MCU was built from the ground based on its most unknown heroes, and it's time DC expands beyond the big names.

This could've been really interesting, but not surprising it got canned.

DC Reportedly Developing Avengers-Style Superhero Show With JJ Abrams

Variety revealed in a recent report that J.J. Abrams' Justice League Dark series for HBO Max is being developed as an "Avengers-style show" from Bad Robot. Abrams and Bad Robot have long been reported to be developing Justice League Dark as a franchise for HBO Max with spin-offs for Constantine and Madame Xanadu.

According to the article, Constantine and Madame Xanadu remain in active development, with the former having scouted locations with plans to start shooting in early 2023. The promising development updates follow HBO Max's cancellation of Batgirl and many other DC projects under the new Warner Bros. Discovery regime.
The Hollywood Reporter described earlier in the year how Abrams has "laid claim to a number of DC characters" in this corner of the universe, but has yet to show anything for it, leading to frustration at the studio. Warner Bros. has reportedly seen scripts for Constantine and the pilot episode of Madame Xanadu.

What's Going On With JJ Abrams' Justice League Dark?

Almost two years have passed since the first reports circulated to suggest J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot were working on this Justice League Dark franchise. With the filmmaker having laid claim to DC's entire supernatural universe and also being involved with a Superman movie, it isn't surprising Warner Bros. is growing frustrated with the lack of output from Abrams.

But with Constantine placed to film early next year, things finally appear to be moving on Abrams' DC plans. So, provided Warner Bros. Discovery doesn't decide to cancel Justice League Dark too, news ought to be coming soon on casting and crew for Constantine in advance of filming.

The only thing I really dislike about the article is it says they're developing an "Avengers-style team up". DC and Marvel are different properties. Do the writers of these articles think there are no comic readers out there that can differentiate between both IPs? Plus is it really necessary on the other hand if Marvel develops something that it's worded like "Marvel is dveloping a "trinity" themed movie"

Abrams must be communicating through "mystery boxes".

but comic book readers read these articles also, so the writer has to think not every reader is a dunderhead. So, no need to dumb it down for the reader. It's like having to explain the United States is a country. Everyone knows that.
