Yeah it was really short lived. And it was also kind of random to be honest, trying to establish a mutant nation in that period and time when the school was doing pretty well and without showing any consultation with other mutants about it. I feel like Taylor wanted to tell this story with the social criticism shoved in and went on about it.

Anyway, it still kinda proves the point that Hickman made the right choice when he chose the political figures of Krakoa since Jean didn't really get the time to be developed as this expert diplomat.

Yeah I wonder if Jean's role in X-Men Red sealed the deal for her to be on the quiet council, but you never know what went into the decisions of the members. Jean and Ororo are great choices to be on the leadership of a nation (and I'd argue same with Kurt).

It is too bad that X-Men Red didn't have the push it needed to be the flagship book. It got a lot of good press and good reviews. It was hailed over and over as the best the X-Men had been in years (again may not be saying much, but ..). What made it mean something was the social commentary. I know some do not like it especially the people it was directed against (those in comicsgate spreading bigotry on twitter and elsewhere) but the X-Men should always have social commentary. Some should be more implicit but some should definitely be explicit.

I thought it was really smart of Red to imagine Sentinels less like giant robots (un)stealthily hiding behind buildings in downtown New York and more as online bots spreading misinformation and radicalizing fascists. It was the best cultural commentary the X-books had in years, keeping in mind that X-men leadership leading up to Red had been totally polarizing (Scott and Emma), ineffective (Storm), or unlikeable (Kitty). Jean's idea was for dual citizenship for everyone mutant (citizenship to the state they were born in and citizenship to a landless mutant collective) so that they would be granted forms of universal rights and privileges. Taylor's story and Jean's vision felt somewhat unfinished and unrealized and abstract (not surprising since X-books had to tread water for years because Hickman had the big plans). Jean had a few bad "both sides" moments, but seeing a strong and compassionate leader protecting mutants from "hate" was nice to see at the time.

Krakoa doesn't allow dual citizenship, eh? A person from any nation who awakens his X-gene powers automatically loses his current citizenship and becomes Krakoan, nothing else? Is that how the mutant nation spins it?

I don't think so. Pretty sure they can combine citizenships with Krakoa. Could be wrong though.

I’m pretty sure you can be a citizen of Krakoa and citizen of your birth country. When Xavier gives his global speech at the beginning of HOX, he requests that all mutants be given birthright citizenship to Krakoa, which doesn’t necessarily negate their birth country citizenship.

Who designed jean's new uniform? It is not satisfactory. Especially compared to Emma's new uniform, I can't stand it. In fact, jean's uniform has not been pretty since X-Men Red. HOX /POX, jean has changed into the former uniform and looks good. Now her uniform was even worse. I know the artist may have wanted to pay tribute to her 90's look, but the results were really poor.

That is her X-Men Red uniform in her signature color scheme. Hickman commented that Jean should “always be in green and gold” so it may have been his idea.

...It's not a bad color scheme, but when it's used on this uniform, it's a nightmare.
