Arrow Historical Monster of the Day

In honor of Halloween, as a sociologist, I've decided to add something truly chilling to this forum. Taken from a well researched Youtube Channel I've recently discovered, I present to you monsters who didn't come from a fevered imagination but who were all too real.

The inaugural monster is a dozy Adolf Eichmann, Architect of the Holocaust -

"So you've come to the end now alive but dead inside."

The host of that channel does several others.

    Top Tenz
    Blaze Business
    Today I Found Out
    Geographics

and that's just off the top of my head.

Related channels for history lovers by other hosts you might like include History Guy (history deserves to be remembered), Extra Credits (a channel that started doing video game stuff until they were given extra ad promotion money from a historical game and kept going - every segment has a bonus episode where they tell you of any mistakes they made), The Armchair Historian, Drachinfiel (specializing in naval history and ships), and the bazillion series from Crash Course. And for something lighter, History Buffs, where the host dissects films for historical accuracy - although he can make exceptions if the film is exceptionally good or bad. He notes how unhistorical Solieri is in the film Amadeus, yet calls it an excellent film, and notes that Alexander is incredibly accurate, yet a nearly unwatchable mess.

Does anyone listen to the Behind the Bastards podcast? That's always good for destroying your faith in humanity.

One American writer, a former Republican activist, would not agree that Hitler was the vilest. From https://www.politicalorphans.com/our-hitler-our-nazis/ :

"On a personal level, Trump is a much worse human being than Hitler.

Hitler served his nation in a truly sacrificial manner in World War I. Hitler had real, lifelong friends. He remained rigorously fit throughout this life. He had a loyal relationship with a partner. He had a taste for art and music. He finished first in an election. Hitler wrote his own book. Hell, Hitler had a dog.

Trump by comparison is a shiftless, miserable slob. He never laughs, never expresses a moment of credible human emotion, and maintains no friends for longer than it takes to cash the check. His sexual relationships are uniformly exploitative. Even his adulterous affairs are owed to his inherited cash.

It is impossible to imagine Trump enjoying a movie, sharing an intimacy, or laughing a joke that wasn’t about his enemies. His rhetoric is a word salad punctuated with schoolyard insults. He didn’t write his own book, build his own policy agenda, or accomplish anything more impressive than delivering mediocre returns on an inherited fortune.

Unlike Hitler, it is impossible to imagine Donald Trump caring for a pet. Donald Trump makes the 20th century’s most cataclysmic tyrant seem relatively relatable, even human."

C'mon now Trump is bad but Hitler is well Hitler. I can't take anyone seriously who contends Trump is worse than Hitler. Come back when Trump has started a war that destroyed millions of lives. Sorry for the foul language but Chris Ladd is one ignorant ass m'fer if he thinks Hitler was a nice guy in any way.

Edit - And on the subject of Hitler's sexual deviancy (which Ladd ignores in his "article") there is evidence Hitler was sexually molesting his niece which is likely why she committed suicide.

PS - Republicans wonder why no one takes them seriously this dude's "article" is a prime example he is singing the praises of ADOLPH F'IN HITLER!

That he did and saw a lot of combat, of his unit of 240 men only 42 survived. Robert E. Lee was also served in the military and look at what is going on with his monuments, its not that thay served it is who they served for. Hitler also used his service and the veterans to gain a foot hold in the Nazi party, If not for his service he may not have came to power.

    Hitler had real, lifelong friends.
He really didn't have lifelong friends, and friends seemed to be a political means to him In the Night of the Long Knives Hitler used this as a way to purge the Nazi party of "friends" that would prevent him from gaining power

He remained rigorously fit throughout this life
    .
Joachim Fest who wrote may biographies of Hitler would disagree, He became dependent on anti-depressants and his close associates noted his bodily fitness that deteriorated

He had a loyal relationship with a partner
    .
First we have Geli Raubal, his half-niece, He was domineering and possessive of her, keeping a tight rein on her. She was caught with his chauffeur. He fired the chauffeur and made sure that she was under constant surveillance when she went out. Long story short she killed herself after basically becoming Hitler's prisoner.

Then Eva Braun, note that she also tried to commit suicide too. But it is thought she did this to get his attention so she really might not have been all there, but Hitler really appreciated the act and did give her more attention. She did the try and kill herself again when Hitler got busy at work and wasn't spending time with her. With that though Hitler though that the women loved him so he maintained the appearance that he was single and never made a public appearance with Eva. The German people had no idea that they were together until after the war. Their's is a story of a twisted Romeo and Juliet that ends is suicide, but Braun never joined the Nazi party was not part of the politics, was kept isolated from the world for the most part... she really had no idea as to why she was killing her self.

He had a taste for art and music.
Hitler left his dying mother taking all his money to study art at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, He failed the entrance exam. Notable for his lack of appreciation of the human form

He finished first in an election.
Hitler never finished first in any election. He was appointed chancellor after the Nazi party won a large number of seats in the Reichstag by the German president Hindenburg. From there he played a political game of chess to come to power. Again he never won a democratic election.

    Hitler wrote his own book.
I have read many books from Ayn Rand to Karl Marx and Hitler's book will never ever be on my reading list! He also started writing his book while he was in prison for a failed takeover of the government in Bavaria

    Hell, Hitler had a dog.
Yes Blondi, a German Shepard. Hitler fed it a cyanide capsule that was given to him so he could test it out to ensure that it worked when the time came for him and Eva Braun to commit suicide (note that after watching the dog die Hitler chose to shoot himself rather than take the capsule). Some reports clam that the house staff was effected more by the death of the dog than the death of Eva.

On a personal level, Trump is a much worse human being than Hitler.....

The problem with comparing some one to Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Mussolini, or any of the like works as normalizing and humanizing them from their monstrous and horrific reality just as this guy did. Hitler had a dog every one good loves dogs right? It waters down their place in history as some of the most vile people to ever govern. I made a comment to someone the other day that we are living in the Weimar Republic with actual fascist and Communist fighting each other in the street. The reason is because we have called people that we don't agree with a Nazi or a Commie to the point that the words actually have no meaning other than I don't like you and given rise to people who really do think that way. We need to stop comparing people that we don't like to some of the most evil men in recent history. Like or dislike like Obama he was not Stalin, and like or dislike Trump he is not Hitler.

    Bravo, Moon Ronin, well said.

I think the millions of Jews, Gypsies and other "undesirables" exterminated by Hitler & his cohorts along with the millions of soldiers & civilians who died during the Second World War, their families and any serious student of history would be appalled. Anyone downplaying the crimes of Hitler so they could discredit a present-day politician as being "worse than Hitler" is being intellectually and factually dishonest. Ladd's "article" (which carefully omitted the pertinent information Moon Ronin provided in his excellent post) is a disgrace to Political Commentators everywhere.

Let him thwart a hard-fought impeachment, and yeah, he will be.
