Default What is the scariest movie you've ever seen?

As we approach Halloween, what do you consider the scariest movie you've ever watched?

Even if it doesn't bother you now, maybe it just scared you very much when you first watched it.

Little Shop of Horrors, the Rick Moranis version.
Little pre-k or kindergartener me freaked the slap out when the plant ate someone. I can still see it when I close my eyes.

    Mr. Sardonicus (1961)

Not knowing what to expect, watching it for the first time was a scary experience. Nowadays, it's just another horror I've grown accustomed to.

The Woman in Black gave me serious willies.

The most terrifying, however, was on the small screen: the TV adaptation of Salem's Lot

I was young for Salem's Lot.

    Yeah I was terrified.

The Exorcist still gives me shivers.

Another film I don’t watch with the lights off is Ringu.

Black Sabbath by Mario Bava. Scary as hell when I was probably too young to watch.
That is if we are talking Horror films.

If we are talking any film, definately "Jaws".
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

I know people don't like him or the movie much, but Signs creeped me out when I first saw it. The scene where they watch the birthday video was done so well. I did not hate the ending either.

Exorcist. When that girl came down the steps upside down like a spider I jumped backward on my couch. I was like 12 but still terrified me

I think the most effective one I have seen in a long, long time is "It Follows"

It was really well done. All time? Jaws.

For me, it was definitely Jaws. I love to swim but I wouldn't even get in a swimming pool for a year after seeing Jaws.

Poltergeist, when I was a kid. I couldn't sleep after that one.

Today, the Paranormal Activity Saga. I watch them in the night, alone in a big house, no lights, dolby digital surround and concentrated. I still jump from the sofa.

    Signs was great, too.

Movies don't really scare me anymore so it would have to be a movie I saw as a child. I would say The Giant Claw. I was afraid it was going to grab our car and fly off with it.
Somehow I could deal with Frankenstein monsters, Dracula, Mummies, but this one got to me.

Like I said, I was a little kid at the time.

Honestly? Both The Day After (1983) and Threads (1984)

The final scenes of both gave me nightmares for weeks.
All the more so because as a teenager in the 80s I was pretty convinced nuclear war was just a matter of time

Parents burned me out very early on horror, so most of it doesn't affect me.

But non-horror things can scare the heck out of me. For instance, I had trouble sleeping for weeks or months after Andromeda Strain. Kept having dreams of everybody's blood turning to dust and dying all around me.
