Please. It was a complete mess(Dreaming Celestial included). I can't stand Hope and Danger or Colossaunt, for that matter. Nor did Ororo's or Namor's kingdoms really come into play. Complete fumble.

That said, the whole point of the Extinction team was as a deterrent, like North Korea or Iran's nuclear programs. Sure, they're just one little nationstate against the rest of the world, but mess with them and you'll open a can of whup ass. Honestly, given how brazen humans have been with Krakoa already, they could use another Extinction team.

I think M and Synch, while definitely in need of some focus, bring novelty{and power} to the table. Plus, early Gen X made Monet Emma's equal or even better as far as telepathy goes, that's just been lost over the years under PAD. Factor in her super speed, flight, strength, invulnerability, and her daddy's ambassadorial connects, and that's a potent bundle of story opportunities. As for Synch, he's better than Hope in every way, and he has that boy scout goodness to help offset some of the meaner mutants. I stand by my cast.

What mess? I can't stand Mimic clones in general so as far as I'm concerned Synch could stay dead too. At least Hope had an interesting outlook for such power being the kind of reflection of mutantkind at the time. Again just because she ended up being crap didn't had to be so back then when she had a lot of space to grow. Juggerlossus had an outstanding dynamic with Illyana so it was also a nice angle. Danger is by far the weakest link but her unusual for an X-team power and Shi'ar connection made her presence tolerable to me. If we're talking about opening arc specifically, the kingdoms were completely redundant. And then the story became so unfocused it isn't even worth discussion. I still adore first 4 issues. Better than hiX-men by a huge margin if we go there.
I'd think now a similar team will need a different premise. Maybe even quasi authorized earthly guardians, a la Ultimates. Working tightly with U.N./S.H.I.E.L.D./S.W.O.R.D./W.E. to display a supposed act of cooperation that was achieved as a showing of good will. There would be a lot of space to play with politics and intrigues too. A strictly Krakoan team operating anywhere on behalf of a nation outside of its borders would be perceived as aggressors so if we want to make it seem relevant and less blind fantasy additional sanction should be granted. imo
M has a lot of space to grow, Synch as I made it clear, really don't care about him. But for the sake of argument let's try to build a team like that with current SQ in mind:

Storm
Exodus
Magneto
Apocalypse
M
...
lol it's just 6 and it's already overpowered. No one would want assembly like that operate within their borders. I know superhero comics tend to ignore sensitivity of borders, but like I said to make it relevant we should acknowledge real world. It's when the X-comics are at their best.

Tough to do and often changing, but I love a team that balances heart/idealism with snark

Cyclops back at base strategizing and equivocating
Kitty Leading the team in the field
Beast in a lab curing/inventing/judging others
Colossus because his heart is bigger than his muscles
Jean-Paul for snark and sass
Wolverine for more snark and because I believe he actually guards Xavier’s dream the best
Emma-Snarkiest of them all
Nightcrawler and Storm for grit and moral compass
