That's what gateways are for, though. They can just talk with whoever is responsible for communicating with the parents, have someone to escort them to Krakoa through the closest gate and they're with their child.

Ew, no. 616 flatscans are trash and the quicker Magneto or Apocalypse wipe them off the earth the better, including flatscan babies, it's likely they will grow up to be pro genocide so homo superior should beat them at their own game.

It often improves the people around us who are inspired by the attempt. It makes our corner of the world a better place than it would otherwise be. Examples would be to be the perfect friend/spouse/brother/sister/son/daughter/etc. We know we'll never truly achieve being perfect, but we try and try and try. Real life dreams like MLK Jr and fictional dreams like Xavier's are always worth pursuing. For a devout Christian, it is to be as holy and kind and loving as Jesus. No matter what, they should never be abandoned. Of course, an idealist's heart beats in me in spite of surviving my "family". Obviously, I voted yes to the poll.
Here is the thing with that though:

You are totally ignoring real-world impact of your behavior

What matters more - somebody "intending" to be striving for a perfect ideal but in reality, their actions are not doing as much good, OR

Someone who accepts a more tangible/achievable set of goals and is actually able to make significant progress towards reaching those?

Compare Mother Theresa in India. How much did she really accomplish? Versus people who work through the political process to set up a government agency that establishes a welfare system for Kolkata. One "feels right" and gives you warm and fuzzies, the other actually helps a lot more people.

Just because you think your ideal is so great doesn't mean you're truly doing more good. That's something to consider.

To be honest though, I think both are important...and, in a way, surely one can't work without the other?

The mother Theresa example: she was far from perfect, but she at least made people aware of what was going on and set an example by trying to do something about it on the ground level. That, in turn, generated talk enough for people to want the system that was causing such brutal conditions for people changed. The problem is, though, changing an entire system can be slow-going at the best of times; trust me, politicians over here? It's all talk and yelling and bluster and nothing gets done--which is why it's important to still have those smaller efforts on the street in the meanwhile.

Another example, a little closer to home: in the UK homelessness and poverty has risen to prominence amongst households with two working parents, it's possible for someone to be homeless/sleeping rough here and still employed. Now, the media has been raising awareness and, by interviewing the people these issues affect, encouraged others in a more privileged position to help. I've seen people actually stopping and talking to homeless people while they wait for aid services to show up, which in turn alerted me to an app called "Street Link"--which basically lets people alert the proper aid services so that they might get a place to sleep, rather than the police who just, y'know, shove 'em along. Those are small efforts and won't solve the overall problem, however, it's much more helpful for the people affected than just ignoring people and expecting the government to do something about it; because after all this time, they still haven't.

It's not a numerical replacement. It's a power dynamics replacement. Look at how quickly something like the internet or smartphones changed the world. Now imagine scores of telepaths and elementals popping up all over the world. One high level telepath can dismantle the entire economic and political institutions of humanity overnight if they want to. It's only the human's AI/self-replicating robots that even give them half a chance.
Let the flames destroy all but that which is pure and true!
