But is tranhumanism any better or worse than people achieving the same thing via genetic mutation? Yes tranhumanism lets the rich basically buy their way into superiority further, but with genetics its almost entirely random who is 'superior', assuming the mutation isn't actively harming them like most real-world mutations do. Both can lead to marginalizing baseline humanity. Feels like 2 bad options at that point.

More on topic, I'd like to know what actually qualifies as homo novissima. Because there are TONS of characters with robot parts and alterations. Would Wolverine's adamantium body count? Or anybody with prosthetic limbs?

That's actually a very good point. What I've seen of homo novissima so far indicates that their biology is so thoroughly enmeshed with technology that it extends even to a cellular/genetic level, distinguishing --- if not irrevocably separating --- them from baseline humanity. There are a lot of cyborgs and otherwise augmented individuals in the Marvel Universe, but none yet so thoroughly altered or remade that they would be (almost) completely separate from baseline humanity.

What if humans decide to "upgrade" themselves with magic or superpowers? Would they still be Homo Novissima

They would be transhuman, maybe, but not necessarily homo novissima. Homo novissima is a specific evolutionary offshoot of humanity that has thoroughly integrated and enmeshed tech with biology. Something like Iron Man's Extremis formula, but even more advanced.
