Default [Spoilers] Batman 82 Preview and Discussion

The preview for tomorrow's Batman is up, and it seems fitting to create an all-encompassing discussion thread.

DON'T GO IN THE APPRECIATION THREAD OF KING TO BASH IT, THANKS !

My thoughts : to the surprise of no one, the Waynes are just despicable here.

What do mean? The lack of honour? if you can't trust a hero who beats his kids to cheat who can you trust?

Is it too late to make a bullshit bingo for this run?

With innocent lives in danger, Batman should fight by gentleman's rules.

If Batman and Catwoman want to take the jump on Bane, they should just take the jump on Bane. Not pretend that "hey, we'll establish some macho man rules" just to immediately break them. It doesn't make the whole thing less toxic masculinity (because somehow it's the vibe I'm feeling in this whole exchange), it just make Bats another kind of *******.

As for Thomas, punching peoples seems to be his default mode to express anything, at that point. And he sports a healing factor on part with Wolverine, apparently.

but by pretending they weakened Bane - if they jumped him straight away he wouldn't have disconnected from the Venom the way he did so would be more powerful.

There's no duh. he doesn't have to agree to any rules but what else can one expect from the guy who doesn't hit his kids only trains them to accept punches as communication. This Bruce isn't a hero.

I have no problem with Bruce cheating, my problem is that I don't givea single f*ck about anyone in this fight. Bane could smash their faces in and I would be happy that they can't talk anymore. Then Thomas can shoot Bane in the face and fall through a portal to join Jor-El in prison.

"This, by the way, is one of the best things about King’s entire run. His Batman story has been engrossing and thoughtful and deeply emotional throughout,"

There is where the reviewer lost all credibility to me and I stopped reading what he had wrote.

It's pretty astonishing that we've lived to see the worst Batman run in the history of the franchise. The character of Batman has been so thoroughly tarnished by this run as to potentially be ruined forever. I've read thousands of Batman comics and while there's definitely some mediocre tripe, this is the worst longform epic that has ever been published in the main title as the franchise-driving narrative. King's Batman slashed his wrists as a ten-year-old boy, tried to murder the Riddler in cold blood during his second year of crime-fighting, cannot accomplish anything of note without Catwoman holding his hand, and was sipping mimosas on the beach while his son was held captive by a murderer, Alfred's neck was snapped, and the entire Bat-family was trounced to the point of potentially being killed.

King's Batman is not a hero. He's a disgusting caricature that cannot be reconciled with any established take on the character or mythos. To me, Batman is functionally dead until DC officially declares King's run to be non-canon and they apologize for allowing this dreck to be published.

That goes for the entire mythos and supporting cast too. I don't think I can ever read something with Catwoman in it again after this, except for maybe the old stuff.
