-Starlord (Nightwing) (earth-born "ladies man" who tends to hang out with teammates who are mostly above his weight class)
-Gamora (Starfire) (alien bad-ass and primary love interest to the team leader)
-Echo (Arsenal) (much like Taskmaster or Finesse, her copycat abilities could get her up to Roy's level at weaponry rather quickly, I'd say. could sub Domino in this position too, if we want more mutants on board)
-Valkyrie [Jane Foster] (Donna) (I think this one's a no-brainer)
-Nova [Richard Rider] (Wally) (both he and Wally have gained a lot of experience and power upgrades since they had the term "Kid" in front of their names)
-Clea (Raven) (powerful sorceress with demonic parentage - Magik could also fill this spot if we wanted to keep her together with...)
-Cypher (Cyborg) (factoring in Doug's merger with Warlock makes he and Vic both human-tech hybrids)
-Reptil (Beast Boy) (youngest member of the team with animal-based shape-shifting abilities)

to be honest, this exercise made me realize that the OG New Mutants had a lot more parallels to OG New Teen Titans, than I had ever realized...

to wit, aside from the Cypher/Cyborg and Magik/Raven bits, you also have:

Danielle Moonstar/Donna Troy (factoring in Dani's Valkyrie powers here)
Cannonball/Kid Flash (not exact one for one, but close enough - CB does get a speed boost when he uses his powers)
Magma/Starfire (heat/energy powers, and the most striking aesthetic appearance on the team)
Wolfsbane/Beast Boy (duh, right?)
Sunspot/Nightwing (different powers, but both are the "rich kid" member of the respective teams)
Domino/Arsenal (also obvious, right?)

one could even separate Cypher from Warlock, using the latter for the Cyborg spot and the former in the Jericho spot

This time out it’s a Govt. sanctioned team, w. US Agent in the lead, along w. the War God Ares, James Rhodes in the War Machine armor, the daddy/daughter duo of Scott and Cassie Lang and General Maverick as the Red Hulk.
Maverick’s other Military/Govt. responsibilities would make him more of a recurring character as he’d be unavailable at times.
