Default Ed Piskor's Grand Design: Your opinions, reviews and reactions

What are your thoughts and opinions of Ed Piskor's three volume Grand Design reinterpretation of the X-Men?

Reading interviews with Piskor has not enamored me to him. And yet great artists can often be difficult people.

Before investing the time and energy I wanted to check with you?

What do you think. I know I know the critics outside fandom and many of the coolest x-pert alt comics besties of are all about it.

But they don't know my language. And the when they tell me things, I hate to just do what they say and believe what they tell me, and this project really has me at that kind of, no thank you, place.

    Can you relate?

Most importantly, what do you think of the series?

I liked the the first set and second one (Second Genesis). The third one (X-Tinction) was a mess and had some original stuff for it to work but I like how Carol was integrated into the X-Men.

Mostly implied that while she was rehabilitating that she was helping with the Kitty and the New Mutants. Piskor included the Binary event. She leaves when Rogue joins. She's probably the only Avenger character in the series.

The one that covered the 60s was good. The rest not so much.

If you've ever seen golden girls do you remember when Blanche was talking about her family and she was like "You know, my family had a few dollars, and i love them dearly, but when it comes down to it, they were trash." That's kind of how i feel about Grand Design.

Yeah, basically this. They look great on a shelf too.

I've enjoyed what I've seen of them, but not read them all completely. I was going to pick them up and had them on my Amazon wish list but then saw there is a hardback edition collecting all three volumes coming out, so I'll wait for that.

It was great especially the 1st volume. Piskor managed to make 60s X-Men interesting. Condensing the entire narrative became trickier by the end when he had to summarize happening in Uncanny, X-Factor and New Mutants.

    Agreed.
But the looping idea in the end of Volume 3 was brilliant.

IMHO it's an essential comic book for any X-men fan's collection.

    I didn't love the third volume, X-Tinction.

There's too much made-up stuff and the non-linear storytelling along with the trivial changes was off-putting.

Pretty sure you just wanted to quote the Golden Girls. hahaha
I was trying to do too much and not doing any of it as well as I could. But I've had a change of mind... though not everyone shall enjoy it. I will.

One of the big problems I had with X-Tinction is that starts off with the birth of Nathaniel as if it's a big deal but it gets dropped and Cable just shows up as if he was always there.

I agree with the other posts.

The first volume was great. The second was interesting. The third was lame.
