Jean wasn't fridged for Cyclops. She was killed in DPS by editorial because she killed the broccoli people. She died and stayed dead after Morrison because editorial, very publicly, wanted to "fix" the mistake of resurrecting her after DPS. Both of major her deaths were caused by editorial interference and had nothing to do with any other characters.

The second dead for sure was fridging. The phoenix thing is a distraction, but she died to give Cyclops some manpain and character development (in his case more to regress)

I would wager these threads and posts are more an attack on a certain subset of Jean fans rather than the character. Not that that makes things any better, mind you.

Yup. I'm not a massive Jean fan but she's a member of the X-Men, a team of characters I love and it's disheartening to see such attacks on any of them. Thank goodness new books are coming out in a few days to distract us for hopefully a few days.

It's the same thing a subset of her fans does with Scott and Emma whenever they can, so it was bound to happen eventually. Tribal mentality is a strong part of internet forums and won't go away. Humans are just like that.

You keep saying this. It doesn't get any more true when you repeat it. Unless she was killed exclusively (and for no other reason) than to motivate or develop Cyclops, it wasn't a fridging.

There was any number of reasons.

1) Cost of battle. (Obvious)
2) Death as Drama (Obvious)
3) Breaking the Story Breaker (Since Jean written at full Phoenix power can resolve most plots by snapping her fingers)
4) Unresolved Death (where Jean was supposed to come back later, but later writers dropped it for one reason or another)
5) Worfing (Show how dangerous Magneto is by killing Jean as Phoenix)

There are plenty of reasons it happened. You've latched onto one that has almost no evidence behind it solely to hate two characters for the better part of 20 years.

Yeah, that's why I said it's disheartening when it happens to any character and their fans. Thankfully not all humans are like that. I love mutants!
