Default The World of Sid & Marty Kroft

Who else grew up with these crazy shows? I can't imagine my childhood without Sid & Marty Kroft. What an imagination. And they have always denied they were on acid or any other drugs. This was just their imagination.

    Which show was your favorite?

    My top 5:

    1. Land of the Lost
    2. H.R. Pufnstuf
    3. Lidsville
    4. Bugaloos
    5. Dr. Shrinker

Electra woman and dynagirl; Bigfoot and wildboy. I’d kind of like to dig up magic mongo.

And don't forget The Far Out Space Nuts.

I used to watch the Supershow every week.

And, of course, Joy from The Bugaloos was my first love.

Whether they personally were hi (puffin the stuff) or not, I don't know, their shows were absolutely trippy to say the least.
If there wasn't media proof these things existed, i'd have thought did I just imagine that?
    Favorites:
Bugaloos have a vague memory of them, (although that firefly creeped me out) I remember the kids were great, fun!
Land of the Lost probably my favorite, as indicated in the other thread the Sleestaks terrified me, but kept me riveted.
That other not Speed Buggy, remember seeing a few of those.
Far Out Space Nuts was pretty dumb, but fun! probably caught a few of those LOL!
Banana Splits, I liked the Hanna Barbera cartoon segments (Secret Squirrel/Atom-Ant), but the mascots had a spazzy energy and look, that made me uneasy and I would change channels if they came on.
Edit: Looking on wiki just now, I was likely watching the later syndicated in 1971 version with new HB cartoons , not the original Splits run?

My overall impression even as a kid, was this is some weird stuff.

I was born later on after those shows first came on the air, but saw the reruns. I enjoyed H.R. Puffnstuff, Land Of The Lost, Bugaloos, and the Great Space Coaster.

I guess Sid and Marty sued McDonald's over the Ronald McDonaldland commericals in the early 70's.

Always seemed clear the whole McDonald land conceptually and visual narrative was after their design influence.
Man the OG Hamburgler was scary.

Generic now, but at the time this straight could have been one of their shows, it no doubt is their creation style and influence.

    They discuss it here.

Odd (for me) seeing the faces behind these creations, never really imagined who they were, just knew their characters.

I guess it took a while, but they eventually won out.

Land of the Lost (the first season, anyway) was must watch TV for me as a kid. For some reason I always like Lidsville, too

Terrific book on Sid and Marty and some good reviews of their many shows

Land of the Lost actually had some pretty good sci-fi storytelling on it, even by adult standards. Enik was a great character.

The episode The Stranger which introduced Enik was actually written by actor Walter Koenig who played Chekov on Star Trek.

This is another great book on Sid and Marty. Since I haven't read the one you posted, they may be very similar.

Always thought HR Pufnstuf looked like the alien Chromoite (big snot monster) in "The Mice" episode of Outer Limits. Never warmed up to the show.

All I really liked from the Kroffts were Land of the Lost, Electra Woman & Dyna Girl, and Bigfoot & Wild Boy.

This stuff was so great and mind-bending!

    I personally loved:

    H.R. Pufnstuff
    Lidsville
    Sigmund and the Sea Monsters

And the budding libido in me of course loved Electro-Woman and Dyna-Girl.

But, really, all of them were entertaining and memorable in their own ways.

Confessing a stupid kid moment - I used to confuse Sid & Marty Kroft with the singing duo Seals & Crofts (Summer Breeze, Diamond Girl, Get Closer).

I thought 'wow those guys are talented. they create these great Saturday morning shows AND can sing pretty good too.' LOL
