Laura still has anger issues. Check.
Teen Cable simply cannot comprehend, nor be comfortable with, a peaceful setting like Krakoa. Check. (and the 24/7 campfire dances are getting monotonous already)
Kwannon dispensing ice cream koans ("Every master is a slave"). Triple check.
They just gotta get outta there (again).
If Apoth is a god, or a mortal entity becoming a god (as hinted by the name), from what genetic root does it originate from?

Thank GOD for X'97. Cautious about "From the Ashes". Please no more Blue vs. Orange.
Hmm. I know Laura fans will be upset because Kwannon is "lecturing" her and all that, also she looks super tiny and petite. But I think the dialogue works well enough. It has a good sort of dramatic "japanese journey of warlike self discovery" themes to it.
Also the artist managed to make young cable look mysterious and cool!
I still hate calling Kwannon "Psylocke" as well as her wearing the "iconic" bikini... but at least her face looks fundamentally different. And her "voice" feels a bit different (from Betsylocke).
Another slight pet peeve is it feels a little frivolous or repetitive , the whole "I'm a character that can't handle peace I need conflict just to live" like... issue 1 Laura said leave Nathan in Krakoa. Issue 2 = Nathan is met by Kwannon and immediately decides to leave Krakoa lol..... I just wish there was a bit deeper motivation here for these characters to go on this journey together. It's good enough for me though.
Forget the old ways - Krakoa is god.

Laura's a kid. The idea that she could have her life straightened out to the point where she doesn't need mentorship is a joke. Cable is interesting. Kwannon is--a curiosity. Why are others turning to her? Why is she the leader? She hasn't really done much.
"A happy ending? So unlikely. We're not having a moment here.
Wrong city, wrong people, all huddling in fear.
No one escapes the slaughterhouse, and that's just where you're at.
(You could've asked Rebecca but then Adam stomped her flat.)
You think you're special cuz you're scrappy? You're deluded, time to go.
Lucy's living on the moon but you're another dead psycho."
great, Laura gets Logan's anger issues. Why not talk to him about it? This is still pretty bad.
Death of Xavier is important enough to lock down the island, but not important enough to end the nightly parties.
"Every master is a slave."
I don't blind date I make the direct market vibrate
Still gold.

I am still on the fence with this book. While I liked the first issue and want to read more about Kwannon, I am unsure of Lauras portrayal here. I am all for giving her more edge, but still..
In ANW #1 it was stated by Dr. Strange that she is able to manage her anger by giving it a direction, to channel it. So Hill's interpretation of her character is that she needs a mission to deal with it and feels uneasy in a peacefull enviroment?
Laura channeled her rage in ANW by reinventing herself and the code-name/imagery of Wolverine into something approaching Cape rather than Cowl. Since defaulting back into her X-23 designation, her mind has slipped back into some dark corners. Oh well.
