    Default Who are the essential members of the JSA?

    If you're putting a JSA roster together, whose name comes up when you think, "it's just not the JSA without ________"?

    As far as i'm concerned, it's just not the JSA without: Jay, Rex, Kent, Alan, Carter and Johnny.
    That being said, i have a deep love and affection for all the original members.

    For me the big 3 of the JSA are Green Lantern, Flash, and Hawkman.

    I'm really surprised that Hawkman's not making a stronger showing so far.

    Flash, Green Lantern, and Hawkman are the big three for the JSA. I'd probably throw Atom and fate onto the list as well for being "not the JSA without" status. To be honest, though, the JSA is capable of qualtiy and interesting stories without all of these members. But the FGH trio are pretty much the JSA trinity/big htree and they need to be part, even if they're not always there.

    I like Catwoman so I liked it when Catwoman was part of the team.

    For me its really not the JSA without Alan, Jay or Ted. They are the Trinity of the JSA for me.

    This makes me wish we could ask more than one question. Given the frontrunners, i have to wonder how many respondents consider Johns run to be "their" JSA.

    Wonder Woman
    Flash
    Alan Scott
    Starman
    Golden Age Hawkman
    Wildcat, for the street level perspective
    Liberty Belle
    Dr. Fate

    In modern day Cyclone, Stargirl, Mr. Terrific, a new Dr. Fate, and J Thunder are all important.

    Definitely: Jay, Alan, and Carter.

    I also like to have included: Ted Knight- Starman, Wildcat, Kent Nelson- Dr. Fate, and Rex Tyler- Hourman.

    Though my favorite version of the team is the 90s & 00s that included many of the legacy characters.

    DC: The Flash (Jay & Wally), Starman- Jack Knight, Stargirl, & Shazam!.

    Black Canary was not included--if she had been, I would have voted for her. In place of her, I voted for Johnny Thunder (who she replaced) and Wonder Woman (the other female member from the 1940s). Based on the 1940s comics (the definition of the JSA for me), Hawkman and the Atom are the most important members, because Carter was at every meeting and Al was at almost every meeting (I think he missed one). And I threw in Dr. Mid-Nite, too, because after he joined he was in it for the duration. These were the most dedicated members--even Wonder Woman, despite being just the secretary for the war years, still had a presence in those comics.

    I went with;

    must haves;
    Dr. Fate
    Green Lantern
    Flash
    Wildcat

    would be nice;
    Hourman
    the Atom
    Starman
    Dr. Midnite

    OTOH, I have a notoriously bad memory of who was or was not on that team, and would be as likely to pick people from that generation of 'All Star Squadron' members who were never actually JSA members.
