Default Ep IV Fan Fic: Who Were The Four Schmucks? we

    So. The Original Star Wars.

The heroes escape the Death Star, and Leia (correctly) points out that their getaway is a ruse.

That means the four Tie-fighter Pilots blown up in the escape were just poker chips.

    So. Fanfic. Who were they?

TP-1234 was Tarkin's son in law. Two weeks later his widow started dating an available Moff. I'm sure those two facts are unrelated.

TP-7344 was a middle management type forcibly conscripted by the Empire. Unfortunately he'd also hit on Padme once at their junior Senate conference prior to the Clone Wars. It took Vader nearly half a decade to realize where he'd seen that name before, but sometime that morning the Sith Lord had an epiphany.

TP- T800 was an elder statesman of the TIE fighter corps. Once brilliant, now just a hollow vision of the man he'd once been and constantly trying to recapture the magic and glory of his youth. Though his thick accent was sometimes difficult to understand, he famously departed the squad room right before the assignment after telling everyone "I'll be back."

And TP-DNTE was new. Originally the assignment only called for three pilots, nobody is really sure why he left the hangar. He had been heard mumbling something about all the damn subcontractors and stormed off in a huff. Probably wasn't even supposed to be there that day.
