Default Michael B. Jordan met with WB about Superman

    https://variety.com/2019/film/news/d...ey-1203415757/

The studio has less clarity on what to do with Superman, a character who has now been rebooted two different times in the last 13 years, once with Brandon Routh (“Superman Returns”) and later with Henry Cavill (“Man of Steel”) without landing on a winning strategy. Superman has also appeared frequently on television, in shows such as “Lois and Clark” and “Smallville,” which has led to some fears at Warners that the market could be over-saturated with hot takes on all things Clark Kent.

To help find a way to make Superman relevant to modern audiences, studio brass has been polling lots of high-profile talent. There have been discussions with J.J. Abrams, whose company Bad Robot recently signed a massive first-look deal with the studio, and there was a meeting with Michael B. Jordan earlier this year with the “Creed” star pitching Warners on a vision for the character. However, Jordan isn’t ready to commit to taking on the project since filming doesn’t seem likely to happen for several years and he has a full dance card of projects. Insiders think that a new Superman film is unlikely to hit screens before 2023, given that there’s no script and no director attached.
If he took the role he'd be by far the most talented actor to play Superman. Best looking one too.

Already posted in the JJ Abrams thread. Looks like they’ve moved on to courting JJ Abrams now.

I still believe in Henry Cavill and his portrayal of my favorite character. I hope that WB doesn't recast him as anyone. Jordan could be good, but whether he is or not it'll be a punch in the stomach as a Cavill and Adams fan, when I think Cavill and Adams can reclaim that part of the fanbase they haven't gotten with their prior films.

2023 sounds outright optimistic, to me. I don't see a new Superman project until near the tail end of the decade, if at all in the '20s. It could very well be the 90s all over again where we just have development hell stories and be bone dry of a flick when all is said and done.

He's better of being another character like Mister Terrific or Firestorm.

Seeing as how many actors and people have been requesting and claiming for a black superman (to the point to Idris Alba Black Superman reference was a key line in
Fast n Furious) It tells me Michael knows what he's talking about. It's a goldmine waiting to happen, and Calvin Ellis or Val Zod are perfect characters to bring that to fruition.

    I'm curious how he'd pull off the S-Curl .

He's better off playing the most famous superhero in the world, not characters only comic fans know.

He looks too young to play John Henry Irons. He looks younger than Cavill did in MOS.

I'd like Henry Cavil to stick around- but if not, Jordan would be a great choice. He's a fantastic actor, and charming as can be.

While I think Cavill did a good Superman with the material he had and I would like him to continue, the more they reference that version, the longer before we get another one that they really do anything with.

As the article said, SR and MoS just did not resonate with audiences as much as hoped. Granted, they need a Superman people expect and want more than a gimmick. But this could work well if they just present him as having the personality people expect from Superman. I can understand Jordan wanting the other identity to not be Clark Kent because I think the movie audience is largely still stuck in the comedy relief goofy Clark of Donner/ Reeve in terms of expectations.

I can already cue the "Get woke, go broke" (even though it seems more like get woke, make a billion dollars) by a certain segment of the audience that needs to time travel back to the 1930s where they belong.

The idea of Jordan as Superman could work but, as with everything else, it will all be in how well they present it.

Some movies need to build and the Snyder Franchise was doing that. All I know is that each movie made more then the last and would have made much more had the studio butted that hell out. People talk about how great the Thor movies are yet I fell Asleep during the first two And still haven't seen the last cuz I gave up on Marvel around the time Disney started shitting on the X-Men franchise (Probably the only guy in the world who hasn't seen all of phase 3.).

Personally I think we as a people are too broken to truly get Superman anymore. Most people think he's a joke of a flying brick yet if you show him with any genuine human frailties that result from being a flying brick they reject him for that too. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I know the Purest want Supes to give Speeches like the River Speech But in my eyes he don't got time for that cause while he's Speechifying Someone Somewhere in dying. Plus you know goddamn well Corporate Media and the Religious Right would be o his back None Stop just like BvS showed.

I don't see many people talking about how great the Thor movies were. Most list the first one as so-so and the second one as one of the worst MCU movies. The most popular was the third one that basically gave up and went for mostly fluff.

But, as far as MoS and B v S go, I liked a lot about both. But these were movies, not chapters in a book or a television series. You can't do a movie that wasn't what half the audience expected or wanted because, a couple of years later, there will be another movie that wasn't what half the audience wanted even if they now expected it so that, a couple of years after that, they'll finally get the movie they wanted to begin with (only it turned out to change visions in mid-stride that it wasn't what people wanted either and, after the first two, most people didn't even show up to see it). Because what really happened is that a major portion of the audience decided after MoS that they would give it one more chance. Then they got B v S and that was the one more chance and even worse in most people's view and they were done with it. They didn't even see JL though, if they had, the reaction to such a convoluted vision would have been the same.

Mind you, I think MoS was mostly decent. B v S at least was trying to say something. But what I think and what you think does not change that a huge portion of the audience despised them and thought that the people behind the DCEU have no clue what the audience mostly wants.
