Jean and Emma are sniping at each other, but in a friendly way. It's teasing. Friends do that all the time.
Jean is even smiling. There is zero indication that she's unhappy.
There isn't anything bad here to complain about. So I guess these drastic reads have to be made to create something to complain about...?
I feel like I've been waiting for this relationship between Jean and Emma for decades (Oh wait.. I have). I'm better get a couple of panels of them grabbing that drink.
Looks great!
The Jean and Emma dialogue is on point. The right amount of tension/shade/respect, from both parties. Good job, Hickman! Hope that carries through in the Giant-Size issue.
Its basically the same as the relationship they had during Morrison's run. Nothing new, old, or game changing. It's what is to be expected.
Two strong females that can cooperate with each other.
There's sniping and then there's friendly shade. They're written like two drag queens who orbit each others bars on gigs. Friendly but get a kick out of insulting each other. And yes, that's exactly how I always wanted them to be.
It’s further establishing the type of relationship they have with each other. Rather than being rudely dismissive or overly friendly, it shows they can still be snippy with each other but get along.
If Emma puts on a strap and calls it “Scott” maybe
They literally end it with a proposition to hang out later. Accept it. This is the new normal on the mutant island.
