My favorite silly plot arc took a couple of *years,* if I recall correctly, to resolve, and it was that of Lytton Synge (I may be horribly misremembering his name...). In the very first issue he killed off his dad to inherit his casino empire, and framed Xian, leader of the X-Men, for the murder. He got played by his sister and mutated into a hulking monstrosity that finally broke free and tracked down one of the X-Men (and his sister, Desdemona?) at the top of the tower that he once (briefly) ran, climbing hand by hand up the skyscraper to get his much-anticipated revenge.

Unfortunately, Doom was present, having just announced that he was taking over, and the Hulk-monster-Lytton interrupted him. Without turning around, Doom casually blasted him off the roof, to fall a hundred stories to his presumed death. Doom then continued speaking, as if nothing had happened.

And that ended the *two year* story arc of his revenge.

    I loved it.

Great characters, really good concept for each. Just- the book kinda sucked. I'd love to read Remender's take on xmen 2099. I was hoping that Hope, ruby summers, or Young Cable would end up being their leader but it never happened.

Could you be thinking of the original Guardians of the Galaxy timeline? In that future the mutants all left Earth for their own world.

Yeah, that idea was presented in ASM 34 when the original Miguel was briefly able to interact with Peter and explained to him that 2099 was the definite future of 616, not an alternate like the others.

In fact, that's like a unique Marvel variation of what just happened in DC's "Doomsday Clock," with how Dr. Manhattan sees the DC "meta-verse" being affected by Superman's own backstory, depending on when his rocket arrives to Earth from Krypton. Early 20th (original), mid-20th (Superman movie), late 20th (Smallville series), and everywhere in between...When the baby who will be Superman arrives, the DC Universe truly begins, set on a new Earth taking its place in the multi/meta-verse (Earth-2, Earth-1985, Earth-52, etc.)

As for Marvel 2099, rather than a new iteration of the setting each time a constant event happens on a different period in a sliding timeline (as above), the 2099 date is the constant, and any significant status quo changes that take place in its past (Earth-616) will have the consequent alterations to the setting brought forward to that year.

At least that's how I interpret it, and the grammar/composition is shoddy because I just got back from the early-morning Misa de Gallo, of which I must endure for two more days after this.
Genkai nante nai (No limits), Zettai nante nai (No absolutes)

Thank GOD for X'97. Cautious about "From the Ashes". Please no more Blue vs. Orange.

I would love a Hickman or hickman like Dawn of 2099 with a modern take on those mutants...even as a what if alt world
In the real world i would be BOTH pro registration and Pro mutant rights. Xavier and Trask were both right.

Would prefer the X-men of 2099 to be pod clones.

It makes sense enough to me, and that's a good way of thinking about 2099 in relation to the present-day MU.

That would be great to see, though I'd especially like to know their take on mutantkind's status quo in 2099.

Cute Lady.. I can see it.. I always wondered if Krys could control Emma when she went into diamond form or replicate that feat.. the Xmen 2099 had so much potential that they barely tapped into
