Default The greatest superhero team in the Marvel world...

Let's say you're a Nick Fury-esque fixer organizing a new version of the Avengers. Thing is, it's got to be staffed with heroes that the in-universe general public and the team's own members will regard as the most capable and most trustworthy heroes alive and active today. Not the most famous, nor the most powerful, but those who will be regarded as the greatest the world has to offer. To make the task even more difficult, you've decided to cap the membership at 10. Who do you choose?

    Remember the criteria:
    • Alive and active today
    • Regarded as the most capable and trustworthy by the in-universe general public
    • Regarded by each other member as the most capable and trustworthy
    • Not necessarily the most powerful
    • Not necessarily the most famous
    • No more than 10

    Go to it.

The FF and The Avengers Big Three, pretty much.

    EDIT: And Blue Marvel

The FF are the “safe” heroes. They’re a family unit, w. public identities, have saved the world a million times, and aren’t mutants.
The Big Three have Cap, who’s basically America w. a pulse. And he’s been associated w. Thor and Iron Man so long ppl don’t blink on seeing them together. SOME ppl may not trust Thor, and the whole God thing, or trust Tony and the corporate raider rich guy thing, or even trust many of the Avengers for that matter, but they trust Cap, and as a unit, he Thor Iron Man have been a steady constant presence.
Hell, they even got past the SHRA and Civil War which seemed impossible at one point.

That's only seven people. So who would the remaining three be?

    Not sure.

A case could be made for Captain Marvel (though i’m not a huge fan of hers), maybe.
Like I said, no mutants, not w. the state of affairs as they are.
Spidey still has that sketchy reputation.

Maybe She-Hulk. She was in the FF, and has never rampaged to the degree her cousin has, so ppl would know her as the “good” Hulk.
Black Panther might work. He’s kind of stand off-ish though, as foreign dignitaries on US soil go...

Yeah, and for me, no other characters seemed as clear cut as the ones I ended up with. I didn’t want to add three more I didn’t really believe in just to pad the numbers.

In-universe, is Dr. Strange that well known?

    I’m assuming he’s trustworthy and well-regarded.

Could be. I could also see Dr. Strange being looked at as a spooky weirdo.

Most capable and trustworthy...and the general public's opinion counts as much as 50%? Ok, here are your safe picks:

    Captain America
    Mr. Fantastic
    Thor
    Captain Marvel
    Invisible Woman
    Dr. Strange
    Spider Man

    ^^^Same.

Marvel characters aren’t as highly regarded as one might think outside the FF and the Big Three.
You have the spooky weirdo, the rampaging monster, that guy who dresses like Satan in Hell’s Kitchen, mutants which are at their all time highest untrustworthiness, the wall crawling masked menace...

Yup. All sorts of reasons why many of the most famous Avengers aren't necessarily trustworthy. That's the thing about Marvel heroes - they have flaws. They're not perfect paragons like Superman and Wonder Woman.
