That definitely wasn't Teddy in the beginning, and I didn't even need that twist in the end to realize it. It was pretty obvious when Carol called him Teddy and he corrected her by saying ''Dorrek''. It was such an unsubtle red flag to show the readers that wasn't really Teddy. The natural conclusion is that this was R'Klll impersonating him, right? Although I'm not sure how she got the Universal Weapon to say it was Teddy. I assume she rigged it somehow, since she was the one who gave it to Carol in the first place. It was weird to me that it looked like they didn't really directly follow up on the massive plot twist from issue #3, though. Like, what the hell is R'Klll planning to do? Does Captain Glory know about it and is helping her? This dude's getting on my nerves. He's on thin ice! I guess we'll find out in issue #5.
It was nice seeing Mur-G'nn not buying into their shit and sending Carol and Johnny to Billy's apartment. Also, I instantly recognized that it was their apartment even before I saw the panel with Billy, LOL. HE LOOKED REALLY GOOD DRAWN BY VALERIO!!!!! And the way he described how he knew it wasn't Teddy due to his body language... TRUE LOVE, Y'ALL!
I was expecting more from the Quoi/Mantis interaction this issue, but like I said, LOE: Celestial Messiah really helped fill in the blanks. I highly recommend for anyone who wants more insight into their relationship, thoughts and feelings! That moment was obviously more relevant due to the She-Hulk twist... which I definitely didn't see coming. I figured Jen was possibly the one who would die, with the Immortal She-Hulk one-shot and whatnot, but I wasn't expecting that revelation that she had been dead ever since Avengers #0 and it was just a Cotati using her body. Pretty macabre. Ewing seems to like this body-switch twists. It's like the third one in this event alone. But I'm sure Jen will be ok; Ewing probably killed her precisely because he knew she was the one he could easily bring back.
And of course... the big gay wedding at the end!!! I always knew we would get a Wickling wedding one day... but I never imagined it would be this way! Kinda crazy to think Billy and Teddy found time during all this madness to get married without anyone (other than the Young Avengers who were there) knowing about it. And now it's kinda clear what Billy's role in the event is... he will help them find the real Teddy and unmask whoever's pretending to be him (likely his evil grandma)! Really looking forward to see how this unfolds... |
