    Default Star Wars Comics

I didnt see a thread devoted to Star Wars Comics so I thought I would start one so we have a place to talk about all things Star Wars Comics.

I just read Crimson Empire and I loved it. It had a great story and a lot of action. I loved seeing Wedge in there. The Royal Guard has always been my favorite side characters. I was happy to learn more about their training and back round.

I am going to read Crimson Empire 2 and 3 in the next few days then start on the Darth Vader series.

For some reason there was a decade long gap between II and III.

Which Vader series are you reading? There's been a few, a couple Dark Horse ones before the first ongoing, which pretty much tied with the Star Wars monthly and later spun off into Dr. Aphra; and then there's the second one which deals with Darth's early years in the suit, as well as his relationships with Palpatine, Tarkin, the Inquisitors and the construction of his Mustafar castle.

Dark Horse had the license from around 1991-2014, when it shifted back to Marvel (as both Marvel and Lucasfilm were under the umbrella of Disney).

There's been a few Vader-oriented series from Dark Horse that came out on a semi-regular basis:

Darth Vader and the Lost Command(2011)
Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison (2012)
Darth Vader and the Ninth Assassin (2013)
Darth Vader and the Cry of Shadows (2014)

When Marvel got the license to Star Wars at first and announced Star Wars and Darth Vader were the ongoings, some fans thought they were mainly just doing what Dark Horse had already been doing.

Keiron Gillon's Darth Vader run from 2015-2016 is epic, definitely one of the best things to come out of Marvel Star wars period. Some of the best SW universe stories I've ever read. It dives deep into Vader's story and character after the destruction of Death Star 2 and the battle of Endor. And it's officially canon:

Also must-read is everything with Dr. Aphra. She gets her start in Gillon's Vader series - then her solo run is a blast all the way through to it's end (the current run just wrapped up).

    Also of note:

Star Wars: Kanan: The Last Padawan by Greg Weisman and Pepe Laraz ... its the story of Kanan Jarrus before he joined the crew of the Ghost in 'Star Wars Rebels'. But it's levels above Rebels in story depth and cool factor and Pepe's art is spectacular.

It doesn't take place after the destruction of the second death star or the battle of endor though...it's definitely set between A New Hope and Empire.

Yep. The new Darth Vader series launching alongside the relaunched Star Wars book will be set between Empire and ROTJ (just like the Star Wars book will). It will be written by Greg Pak. Charles Soule will be doing Star Wars.

Do the Darkhorse series come in trade paper back?

There is a ton of the Dark Horse material in trades. Some of my favorite Star Wars stories are the stuff Dark Horse was doing set between Episode 3 and Episode 4 showing the rise of the Empire and Darth Vader hunting down the surviving Jedi. The Star Wars: Purge trade and the Star Wars: Dark Times series are fantastic.

Anybody read The Rise Of Kylo Ren? I thought it was pretty good. Its alluded in conversation between Ben and Snoke that Luke was the one responsible for Snoke's disfigurement.

I just read Crimson Empire 2 and really enjoyed it. I think I am going to start Empire before I start the Darth Vader series.
