Yeah, Washington DC has a team...but look at it. A time-displaced "hero" with possible mental disorders, a government yes-man, a warrior from Apokolips, a demonic sociopath, a freaking Aquaman villain...and Hawk & Dove. Two out of seven ain't great, especially when it comes to protecting the nation's capital. As a result, a team is formed in West Virginia as a supposed part of the Initiative, but really dedicated to one purpose: to take the DC team down if need be. They are...THE NEW FREEDOM FIGHTERS

    FreedomFighters.jpg

    CAPTAIN ATOM
Nathanial Adam has always done his duty, but is also enough of a free-thinker to know to do what's right over whatever his orders might be. When he sees the team assembled to protect Washington DC, he knows it's only a matter of time before things go south. With the other states already taken, Adam uses his connections to get posted in the closest state available and assemble a team of like-minded heroes with government/military ties to be at the ready to take the fight to Washington, if need be.

    MISS AMERICA
With the other traditional members of the Freedom Fighters spread out across other teams, Joan Dale is the sole member with experience in other versions of the team. Having been fighting for the country since WWII, she's grown increasingly concerned with the various shades of grey that have begun to infect the country she held so dear, as well as the secrets that were held by those in power almost since the country's inception. She's more than ready to lend her powers to the Captain's cause.

    THE VETERAN
The immortal hero who is said to have fought in every war America's been a part of, from the Revolutionary War until now, the Veteran has certainly seem his share of change over his many years. He's come to realize that the kinds of wars being fought have changed and his strategies need to as well, though after so long such a pivot can be rough-going. Still, he admires what Captain Atom is trying to do and agrees to be a part of it.

    NEGATIVE WOMAN
It might seem odd, a Russian woman being part of a team like this, but Valentina Vostok spent years in this country, working not only with the Doom Patrol but also just outside of Washington DC as the White Queen of Checkmate. So she has some memories and some stakes in making sure the institutions she helped to protect stay safe.

    TEMPEST
Joshua Clay has been laying low since his resurrection, fearing what Niles Caulder might do should he discover he's alive again. But when his former teammate Negative Woman comes calling, this ex-soldier can stay on the sidelines no more, ready to use his mutant powers to protect a country he has some serious issues with...but still feels can grow and change into something where all people truly are equal.

    G.I. ROBOT
All but dismantled by the military for newer, shinier models, J.A.K.E. II is pulled from the mothballs and sent to join Captain Atom's team. Though the idea of going against a government-sponsored team with his various skills and abilities feels counterintuitive to his programming, J.A.K.E. II has developed a certain level of empathy that can override his basic command settings. Through this, he sees his fellow teammates are honest and righteous in their beliefs.

Yeah, for sure. They could've either just created four or five new characters who adhere to the tenants of Mormonism, found a few low-tier characters with next to zero backstory and "converted" them, or just put other heroes there. Saying every hero on the team being Mormon is okay for a cheap laugh, but not much more than that.

    ^^^Yes yes yes.
The Veteran and GI Robot, Cap, Miss America…awesome.
    Negative Woman? Great reasoning there.
Tempest used to have a thing for Valentina, wonder if he still does!

God, I wish this was true. That'd be so hilarious, especially if they made Peeper the religious one who was freaking out about Julie Power's bisexuality.

Thanks...I had a lot of fun with this one. And you set it up so well with your quirky DC line-up. It reminds me of the "Trump Avengers" line-up you did on the Marvel boards.

    ^^^LOL that'd be hilarious!
Those characters are the Utah team I built for Marhawkman’s Initiative thread. They’re Marvel’s main Mormons as far as I could tell.

    ^^^Oh god the Trump team!
    It haunts me still!

Seriously though you knocked it out of the park w. that team.

Some of the Initiative characters WERE fully new characters. So they could have just made stuff up. Maybe the reason these guys were so rarely seen is just... they stay home most of the time?

Much like American Samoa, pickings are slim when it comes to Puerto Rican heroes, so some outsourcing was needed. Still, there are a few on board and one of them even recycled a previous team name here. So Puerto Rico, get ready for THE REVOLUTIONARIES!

    Revolutionaries.jpg

    HERO
Hero Cruz was born in Metropolis but is using the Initiative to explore his Puerto Rican heritage, taking a position on the team. Based upon his experiences dealing with interdimensional travel and his ties to Superboy, he's appointed team leader, something he didn't expect and that doesn't sit too well with one of the other members. Fortunately with his unique powerset stemming from his HERO dial, he should be able to conjure up whatever hero is required to fight back any resistance.

    OSITA
Given her life experiences thus far, including losing her wife and betrayal at the hands of the Suicide Squad, it's no reason Osita has a chip on her shoulder. Although some view her in a negative light, she still stepped up to be on the Puerto Rican Initiative team, even going so far to suggest the team name, carrying over from her last group. What she didn't expect was the leadership of the team to be given to someone not from Puerto Rico, heritage be damned. She's going to have a few violent thoughts on that...

    MENAGERIE
Menagerie has spent the last few years in prison, having murdered a fascist dictator as part of her revenge schemes against Justice League Elite, which she hates for what Manchester Black did to her sister Pamela, the first Menagerie. But as recent reviews suggest she has rehabilitated herself, the Initiative has her released and assigned to the team in her native Puerto Rico. Time will tell whether she's actually moved on from her plans.

    JET
The primary hero of Jamaica, Jet finds herself taking a spot on the Puerto Rico team, after the Initiative and its sponsors call in a few favors. While the roughly 700-mile trip is a simple one for one with her powers, Celia Windward still views her membership as something as an inconvenience, given that her presence leaves Jamaica virtually defenseless. Plus, as a member of the Global Guardians, she left her home to protect the world; now, she leaves her home to protect an island smaller than her own nation.

    BUSHMASTER
Another favor called in by the Initiative, another former Global Guardian on the team. However, unlike Jet, Bernal Rojas is more than happy to travel from Venezuela to use his various reptile-based gadgets and natural fighting prowess to assist Hero's team. Some of this stems from his desire to prove himself after his recovery from a near-death experience, while most of it is to really stick it to Batman, who offended Rojas by not inviting him to join Batman Incorporated, when he's clearly a prime candidate for it.

    RIMA
Another Venezuelan hero, albeit nowhere near as flashy or recognized as Bushmaster (whom she's never met until joining this team), Rima opts to leave her jungle home to go to join Hero's team on the express condition that the US government will give significant funds to aid in the conservation of that same jungle home. Although she does acknowledge herself as a team member, Rima mostly keeps away from the others, preferring to reside in the El Yunque National Forest until she's called upon.

A Western team inspired by Marvel’s Fantastic Four…:

    DR. TERRENCE THIRTEEN
Thirteen is kind of a good guy version of Wild Wild West’s Dr. Loveless (a scientific genius w. a fascination for all things steampunk) w. a little bit of Back To The Future Doc Brown’s nuttiness mixed in.

    BAT LASH
No he doesn’t have actual powers like El Diablo, or even a flame based name like Firehair, but Bat Lash is a young, blond, adventurous, fun loving, self described ladies man which is a lot like classic Johnny Storm. He’s also incredibly, almost superhumanly lucky, which comes in handy.

    THE BARBARY GHOST
Being an Asian woman, and this being the old West, Yanmei Tsen can become invisible by just lowering her head and walking demurely. When she goes into action mode though, she’s a Martial Arts Master, an expert w. firearms, swords, knives, and especially deadly w. a bow.

    SUPER CHIEF
Wielding the sacred Manitou stone, Super Chief has unmatched strength, speed, and durability. He tolerates the Doctor, respects the Ghost warrior, and thinks Bat Lash is touched in the head.

    Thats a fun lineup.
