I know for sure I read this back in the day, I guess I just forgot.
This was early, pre-Flanderization Lobo, too. He was way cool and not so over the top silly.

They have. Lobo was sent to kill a JLI Task Force that was on a mission to rescue Barda's husband, Mr. Miracle. Lobo trashed Rocket Red and G'Nort and was giving J'onn J'onzz some trouble when Barda decided to Boom Tube him out of the way. Unfortunately, Lobo ended up landing on Earth, hitting nice Guy Gardner on the head, bringing back the original mean Guy Gardner in all his glory and in fine form, who went to town with Lobo. The story can be found in JLI # 18-19.

    Peace

Yep, that was it. It was one of Lobo's early appearence, and J'onn couldn't fight him with all his might, for fear of making him bleed, which would bring forth new Lobos. I think that was the first time Lobo showed up as sort of a space biker dude (which Maguire seemed to use Kiss' Gene Simmons as inspiration). Later on, they'd further develop that.

    Peace

A “Bwahaha” League driven line up. Not a one-for-one swap really, but more in the way the book would be written; broad personalities, a touch of Flanderization, and a tendency to get in each other’s way during missions.

    MAX MERCURY
Like J'onn J'onzz, Max is the team leader and straight man.

    LADY BLACKHAWK
Hard fighting hard drinking second in command.

    CAPTAIN TRIUMPH
A relic of the forties, Cap will get the golly gee whiz jokes Billy Batson used to get.

    VARTOX
He’s the Barney Stinson of the team. A good natured but ultimately harmless lothario.

    DR. OCCULT
    Thinks EVERYTHING is a conspiracy.

    JOHNNY THUNDER (and his Thunderbolt)
Johnny will get the old fart and ‘back in my day’ jokes. The T-Bolt is basically Robin Williams.

    JINNY HEX
The sassy Southern belle’s great in a fight but also incredibly trusting, to the point she doesn’t notice Monster Girl totally doesn’t like her.

    MONSTER GIRL
The snarky shapeshifter is the Veronica to Jinny Hex’s Betty. She also likes screwing w. her other teammates for her own amusement.

    BIG BEAR
If Jinny Hex and Monster Girl are Betty and Veronica, BB is Archie, totally oblivious the two heroines both like and are competing for him. Now living on Earth, BB is trying and hilariously failing, to learn the planet’s customs.

    THE VETERAN
Seemingly immortal, virtually indestructible, w. nearly 250 years of experience, the Vet’s taken part in every war the United States has ever fought, and he’s in charge.

    THE VIKING
Having been created, and then erased, during the Emperor Joker event, how the godlike Viking is now on Earth is a mystery. His presence has upset several Pantheons, which will be an issue (several issues really a whole story arc). Then there’s the fact that he was originally created using 5th dimensional “magic”, and Mr. Mxyzptlk will eventually show up w. some questions.

    SOCIALIST RED GUARDSMAN
The radioactive up-armored Guardsman is massively powerful, so when he defects from China and not only goes to America but joins their newly formed JLA, the Chinese Govt. views it as a slap in the face. Look for Guardsman’s former team the Great Ten, to try and forcibly bring him back “home”, kind of like Alpha Flight went after Wolverine back in the Claremont/Byrne days.

    ATOM SMASHER
Al Rothstein is more than happy to put all his generational Infinity Inc. JSA baggage behind, so of course his new team and his old team will cross paths, w. him squarely in the middle.

    BUMBLEBEE
The Veteran finds it hard to believe that a young woman w. such a useful powerset, scientific background, and initiative, has never been a prominent hero on a major team. He’s going to change that.

    DAMAGE
A certified team wrecker during his “Hour of Power”, Ethan Avery had been AWOL and on the run from the US Govt. until the Veteran tracked him down, and offered him a chance to clear his record in return for joining the new JLA and using his abilities in a way that wouldn’t compromise his morals.
And who would be the Rick Jones of such avenging line -up? 'Cos you need a Rick Jones with this line-up.

^^^Oh for sure it would have to be Bernard Dowd. Why? Because HE’S AWESOME! Uuuuuunfortunately on the team’s first adventure, Bernard gets accidentally shoulder blocked through a brick wall, stepped on, struck by lightning, runs off and slips in some radioactive waste then gets shrunk down to subatomic size and never seen again.

Yeah, I don’t like this character.

No but seriously, I’d go w. Bobby Barnes. He’s a huge fan and friend of, Wonder Woman. He’s been to Themyscira, and was even made an honorary Amazon complete w. Bracelets and goes by Wonder Boy. He’s a nice likable kid and I think he’d be proud to help out the new JLA, in honor of Diana.

    Bernard? Bernard, Bernard, Bernard... Bernard!!
    Nope, no idea.
And I suppose that is something good.

    That could work better.

    DEEP SIX
This book’ll be a spiritual successor to the Sea Devils, who the team will eventually meet I’m sure. Their adventures will range from the silly (matching wits w. Capt. Squid) to the serious (ldealing w. the devastation and loss of life after a massive tsunami).

S.T.A.R. Labs would be a regular employer, and the evil cabal N.E.M.O. would be recurring bad guys.

    HUMAN FLYING FISH
Looking to go legit, H.F.F. has put together a group of aquatic ex-cons and started his own business. They’re open to doing anything sea related; salvage, search & rescue, research, conservation studies, clean up operations etc.

    MARINE MARAUDER
M.M. created technology that allows her to communicate w. most types of sea life. She’s an in your face type person and loves to be the center of attention. Oh, and she’s declared herself second in command.

    TORPEDO MAN
One of the many sentient robots running around the DCU. Torpedo Man’s fast, strong, nearly invulnerable to harm and mostly spent his existence as a flunky to various bad guys. Truth is, he’d rather be watching Discovery Channel of which he’s a huge fan.

    ORCA
Despite her animal appearance Orca’s an accomplished scientist and oceanographer. The idea of getting back to doing some positive work really appeals to her.

    FIN and SCALE
The brothers are basically underwater speedsters, nearly impossible to catch or get a bead on when they get going. They’ve developed ways of working in tandem that leave opponents thoroughly confused. They’re rebellious by nature but committed to making this team thing work out.

    THE JL(A)I…:

The Eradicator, Tomorrow Woman, and Failsafe serve as The Trinity.

Red Tornado fills in for The Flash. Because Tornados are fast.

Stel is a Green Lantetn from a planet of sentient robots. No, not Cybertron.

Spartan has no connection to Aquaman, but like Arthur he’s a powerful character who can get overlooked on such a stacked team.

Hourman is in for J’onn J’onzz. He’s the aloof character from a far off place (in time) that’s probably the strongest member of the team.

Hawkgirl is always a popular choice for an eighth member. This mecha is a weapon from Apokolips who used HG as a template, including her heroic nature which took a little time to kick in.

Ok, sounds good, there's a LOT of AIs they've done over the years, though many are barely footnotes.

^^^Yeah DC is AI friendly for sure.
I tried something like this w. The Avengers but it didn’t really click. I’m happy w. this one, though!
