This feels like a face saving measure. A way to entice folks into S4 with the promise of a tied up ending.
It is one show but with the lead being two actors it feels like two shows, one 3 season arc another 2 seasons.

Superboy lasted for three seasons after recasting the lead.

It was a crappy syndicated show though.
