To those who are missing out because it's not working, I will say that Marauders is very much a comic that's playing with toys but not breaking or changing them. Whatever happens with Kitty here isn't going to be permanent. The comic is written with an air of "let's have fun with this while we still can".
The book comes across as too comedic and cartoonish. Everything is played for laughs, its hard to take it seriously. And the cast is not balanced, Kate completely dominates. Unlike X-force which in the same number of issues has managed to make everyone contribute and shine.

Feature, not a bug, my dude. The idea behind Dawn of X was to get as many X-Men titles out and have every title stand out with distinct premises, genres, and hooks.

The other X-Men comics are on the serious side, one comic that's just straight fun, comedy-action and cartoonish, is not the end of the world.

And having Kate Pryde as a comedy heroine, and an X-Men action-comedy is fairly rare as it is.

And the cast is not balanced, Kate completely dominates.
Because we all want a story centered around Pyro.

There are so many X-books from which to choose...each having its own distinct character and characters. It makes it very easy for a reader to choose the one(s) they like and ignore the other(s) they dislike. No stress, no mess.
(And with all the reviews/summaries available on-line...it's not as though any story details would be lost.)

Other than Kitty? I dunno. I've gotten a lot of Kitty over the years, including a Wolverine/Kitty mini-series and a great stand-alone Christmas issue back in the day with her 'home alone' against a Ngarai. I think I'd actually rather a story about this new Pyro, who seems *wildly* different than the bitter older man who was a part of Mystique's Brotherhood.

But, really, I'd *much* rather see a focus on Storm or Bishop, than either of them.

    Or one from Lockheed's perspective.

See, I would have agreed with you right up until Marauders #1 came out. I was sick to death over the self righteous, sanctimonious bitch I perceived Kitty to have been (for a looong while now) but Duggan's angry, vulnerable, drunk and slightly more violent Kate has been one of the standout characters I've read in comics in a very long time. The only thing I'd change from the series is the brats, they should have been tossed into a metaphorical dark hole by Marvel editorial and never allowed to see the light of day again.

Yup yup. I don't read all the titles, just the ones I really enjoy.

Agreed, actually, this has been the most *fun* Kitty has been in, pretty much ever, since Excalibur, at least...

And double agree on the brats. Ugh. Yes, some powerless misanthropic eight-year old with a lot of money is going to be a real threat, to... absolutely no one. Have Warren or Emma or Bobby or Charles or Monet or Betsy (or all of the above) buy out his company and send his cousin Oliver ass to juvie, where he can learn some skills to survive the future he deserves, like how to steal hubcaps and eat out of garbage cans.

That’s exactly why I LOVE Marauders.

True, I would personally rather have Storm lead this Team. But I’m actually fine with her being second in command(or that’s what it feels like to me). Duggan is writing Kitty in a way that I ACTUALLY like her. Even Pyro he is WAY more intriguing and interesting than his old version. He’s also taken to this protective role to Storm and his teammates which is so weird because back in the day he use to be this mean asshole when he was in the Brotherhood. I love Pyro. I give Duggan great PROPS for making me like characters I could give less a damn about.

I enjoy his Sebastian and his Bishop. Duggans portrayal of Storm is BADASSS. But I’d like a bit more Iceman he’s seems to be more of a background than anything.

All in all I agree to your whole response.

I wish the stakes were higher in this book. I wish it was more serious with deadly consequences and political ramifications. Sebastian Shaw could have been portrayed better as a formidable manipulator and opponent. His motivations could have been fleshed out more clearly. Instead, the book so far feels predictable like an episode of power rangers. Emma and Kitty are too cozy in their position. I would love for Sebastian to shake things up and cause a divide between the reds and white. He needs someone more devious than Shinobi. Maybe someone more like Fitzroy or Mystique.

I would bet that we're going to see this eventually, possibly in many different ways.

Man, I like watching superheroes having fun. The marauders travel the world rescuing the oppressed, putting the boot to the oppressors, and rocking out to journey. I've got decades of X-men misery porn in my plastic liners. I'm over it! I LIKE SEEING THEM ENJOY THEIR LIVES.

SAME! It's my absolute favorite thing about Marauders and it manages to be a lighthearted book without feeling insignificant to the X-Men World

It's a nice breath of fresh air to have a book that steps away from the relentless grimdark. Back in the day, the X-Men could get together for a friendly game of baseball, for instance, so it's nice for not everything to be hopeless and angsty. I liked the original Days of Future Past as a dystopian possible future that was averted in a single issue, but it seems like, in the decades since, various writers have been trying to out-dystopia it...

Until they explode in ludicrous gibs, towards the day when mutants outnumber the mon-keighs.
