You can tell she's a great mother to Cable, but other than X-Men Red, I don't remember a single comic where Jean is written as having affection for Rachel

To be fair about it, it's not like Rachel is actually her child. And they are both twenty-somethings. Rachel is goofy for putting the mom thing on her.

Conversely, Jean did actually steal/adopt Cable and raise him until he was a teen.

Um no she didnt. She married his father and was his legal stepmother. There was no stealing. Madelyne was dead when Jean raised him and you cant steal a child from a dead person especially since she had a legal right to him via his father

Also one doesnt have to push a baby out their hole to be a mother. That way of thinking completely invalidates the bond that stepparents and those via adoption have

I don't think so. That's Maddie. And even if it wasn't, that would be mighty convenient. Almost as convenient as Maddie happening to me a demon when it was time to hook the husband up with his old girl.

Blah blah blah, we get it, you don't like that Nathan is Jean's son because he's Scott's and another woman he had a relationship with gave birth to him, which is oh so humiliating for Jean or whatever. This is the kind of thing spirit used to get fussed about(though I don't remember his stance on this particular subject).

Whether I like Jean being humiliated doesn't matter. She is still sentencing Cable's mom to death for "reasons" and sentencing herself to another battle against one of Cyclops' exes when the ex comes back mad about it.

To be quite honest most of Jeans votes and decisions on the quiet Council have been based on her compassion and Humanity so I take the bet that she most likely voted to have Maddie Resurrected. Chances are it was Xavier, Magneto, Apocalypse, Exodus, Mystique, Emma Frost, Sebastian Shaw, and especially Sinister that outvoted the rest.

Maddie herself is very interesting. She was made from Jean.
She carried a piece of Jean's soul, due to the PF, the very thing that makes a person a person in the MU. Jean absorbed that part of her soul which was rightfully hers, and has Maddie's memories. So really Cable is Jeans son in every single way but birth. It might sound cazy but that's the MU for you. No Jean no Cable it's as simple as that really
