We know she took classes at Metro College and Columbia with Teen Jean attending some classes at Empire State (Extraordinary X-men). In the first issue of Extraordinary X-men she appeared to be in an anthropology course (but could have been a social theory course or even a psychology course).

We know Jean took advanced psychology courses in Columbia (X-factor) and I think it was said she took psychology courses and communications courses at Metro (original X-men issues).

Currently she is serving on the quiet council and on the latest version of X-force (Mutant CIA) which both feels like an occupation. I do think the X-men should have specialty areas and should have something resembling careers. The division of labor on Krakoa could lead to a lot of interesting stories.

Personally, I loved Jean as a school administrator. She would have worked well as a school counselor in my opinion, or of course as the headmaster.

Since Jean has some background in psychology what do you think would be Jean's area of focus? Experimental Psychology (research methods), Abnormal Psychology, mental health counseling/therapy, human development, another area?
She already does that. We've seen her counsel people over the years. Most recently she helped Psylocke through the mental issues she was facing during her last body switch. She also was helping Nehnzo get to the psychological root behind why he had issues controlling his powers. She was the go to therapist in the ResurrXion era

I do like Jean as the resident counselor and she could even have a greater role with that in the new mutant nation if they wanted to go in that direction. Due to her empathy and compassion it would be a great fit. Still, there are other areas in psychology that might be fun for Jean as well.

Being a diplomat, investigator, and interrogator in X-force allows Jean to not only to use her telepathic skills but also skills she may have learned in her training in psychology.

As a kid, Deanna Troi was one of my all time favorite characters. I'm thinking of comparisons now with Jean.

I was in Florida on a family vacation when the first X-men movie came out. I remember telling my family that we had to find a theater. It was not up for debate- we had to see the movie. I recall how excited I was especially for Jean's first scenes.

I know there is a lot to criticize about the X-men films, but I can recall how excited I was for X-men 1 and 2. X-men 3 I watched with a group of 5 people, 4 of whom I met through the Jean Grey Message Board (see JohnH some of us met life long friends through your message board). In fact one of those is my partner of over 12 years.

For me fandom is about community and interacting with various people and getting to geek/nerd out about common interests. Another component of fandom that I appreciate is imagination. As a kid I loved to create my own x-characters, teams, and stories. I played with toys long before there was ever a Jean Grey action figure. I had to use Castaspella from She-Ra as a stand-in for Jean. I aged out of toys and then a few years later the first Jean figure came out. :\ Though I admit I prob played with toys longer than most kids. I was 10 years old when X-men the Animated Series first debuted.

I was always fond of Jean in the role of someone that took care of other people and the school and such as that. In the Morrison era she was the perfect choice for headmistress; she wasn't shady like Charles was even if Charles only vacated that role because it was, in actuality, Cassandra and she didn't already have multiple deaths and failures under her belt like Emma did. And she rocked the role well. She protected her kids and her X-Men alike from Cassandra, the Shi'Ar, and other threats and it felt perfectly in character.

I also like her on the world stage as a politician. The original X-Men film and X-Men Red have both showed that Jean plays that part rather well, and she's now on the Quiet Council in a role that also makes perfect sense for her. I'd just like to see MORE of that.

I wish she had escorted the men in Hickman's run when they went to meet with the diplomats as that would have been at least a small acknowledgement of Red and the direction her character had taken

I agree with Jean as Headmistress and also on stage with the politics. I always remember Jean in the first X-Men film and how well she did dealing with that slippery eel Stryker.

Yeah, but to do that would mean that Xavier and the others wouldn't be able to strong-arm the other politicians into agreeing with their terms via intimidation. Jean never would have let that fly.

I wasn't counting her out because we don't see the Instagram numbers. Iron man might have had 16 out of a total 20 (80%) Instagram votes for all we know while I could see that Jean was over by more than 2K on FB and Twitter yesterday.

Jean would be even more popular if they would let her be...alas floating dishes and being useless while everyone else is trying to save the day is what people who have only recently come aboard will know her for.

Actually Kid Cable was the one that set the dishes. Hickman's Jean isn't strong enough to lift several plates at once lol.
