Both have wings imagery, both have Hellfire Club connections (especially if we believe this idea that an ancestor of Jean was the former Black Queen), both have had a fall from grace along with physical and emotional transformations and trauma, and then if you involve Apocalypse, the dynamic between them gets even clearer. Like in UXF, when AoA Jean confronts Archangel and her power fails on him because he points out that as the Phoenix, she wants the same cycle of life and rebirth that Apocalypse stands for. In the Apocalypse Files from X-Factor, which were posted in the past few pages, Apocalypse calls himself the Black King and Jean the White Queen and notes that Warren is like his son and heir who could take on that mantle so that further sets up Warren and Jean almost as this evolutionary pinnacle. On a darker note, I suppose they've both committed genocide as well. And it never seemed like Warren's heart was into any of his relationships after Jean as Candy pointed out, with the exception of Betsy and even that was really only set up in UXF which also had Jean as an important influence on Warren and Betsy as a couple. The early 05 comics made it seem like they were the obvious couple which is why it made sense to not put them together, but they did wind up together in a What If? issue and in X-Men Season One, Jean does eventually develop an interest in Warren by which time he's already moved on. In X-Factor, it also seemed like in the early issues that maybe Warren and Jean might come together since Scott was unavailable because of Maddie.

I liked the start of the Gold Team era but I had no interest in the Morlocks and Mikhail Rasputin storyline. I'm not sure why they brought back Mikhail only to kill him off (and eventually bring him back again) nor why Claremont had basically set up the end of the Morlocks but they were restored to their status quo here. It was an odd story overall, but I did like those late 290s issues that involved the Acolytes and Jean had some great power stunts in them. I never read the Onslaught story so I didn't realize that's when the Blue/Gold team distinction was officially abandoned. I always figured that occurred to some extent after Scott and Jean's wedding.
They could go on flights together. It would be cute.

And if you are going to copy, copy the greats, the Eisner's, the Ditko’s, the Kirby’s...
So true, his copies were always inferior. Yet he copied great artists sometimes, like Miller.

I also liked the issues with her and the Juggernaut as well as the issue that shows her full message to the other teams (that was first previewed in Uncanny 287).
I should one day. The only Jean moment I'm familiar with from Onslaught is when she discovers that Xavier used to love her. And I guess her message from UXM 287.

Agreed. Storm and him had that relationship in the WATXM cartoon as well as in their first meeting in Classic X-Men 1. Not to mention Scott and Jean first made love on top of a butte in New Mexico whereas Warren and Betsy do the same thing in UXF in Arizona I think. So that's another commonality between Jean and Warren.

Her first death could be considered in UXM 100/101 when she dies on the space shuttle and is reborn as Phoenix. That's how it was originally portrayed. Then she died again in UXM 137 on the Blue Area of the Moon when she commits suicide. You could argue both of those deaths were retconned since then because of X-Factor. That would make her first death in UXM 281 but even then, she's only physically dead and she swaps minds with the White Queen to stay alive. I know when Thanos did his Infinity thing in the comics, she was one of the characters who temporarily ceased to exist.

She didn't really start to die until Morrison's run when she was killed by Wolverine and then resurrected only to be killed by Magneto/Xorn right after. Then Wolverine killed her a bunch in Phoenix Endsong. I know she died at least once in Hickman's current run.

I think you almost got them all except for Jean's experiences as Teen Jean: she was killed by the Phoenix in the Jean Grey solo and later was resurrected by the Phoenix. She also had a "death" or near death in the Poison/Venom story where she had to recreate her body with her powers.

Just add these death & near death experiences as another reason the Phoenix codename is perfect for the character.

I forgot about Teen Jean. I'm glad you filled out her history.

And I agree about her codename as well. Phoenix is her identity and she doesn't need the Phoenix Force to keep the costume, codename, and raptor manifestation. Like in the Kelly and Seagle run or Claremont's Revolution run.

So, like many of you, I think Jean needs more of a darker costume for her missions on XForce. Someone on CBR suggested a variant of her Xfactor Forever look. I decided to mash it up with her Morrison outfit. She could also wear the long coat if she wants to on missions. Hope you like

This can definitely work...though I would love to see more of the asymmetry of the X-motif on the left.

One would say adult Jean Grey should be able to do that...

I really like it. Thanks! I agree with Devaishwarya, more asymmetry of the X, like the X-Factor suit, would be great I think.

that last one is rly interesting take on the costume . It'd look cool in X-Force in the field and ofc matching w/ Sage behind the scenes

Making the mask like a mini-Cerebro is a cool idea. Not sure if that's what the artist was going for, but that's how I've always interpreted it, and I think that'd be cool to see.
