I would be really happy if future years of comics focused more on Hal's friendships with Ollie, Clark and Barry (and possibly him developing new dynamics with characters like Ray and Carter) instead of trying to force a close relationship with Bruce that doesn't really work. I want him to be more connected to the DCU, but I don't want that connection to be through Batman if that makes sense.

The readers don't care about them as much so while it makes sense for Hal, it wouldn't be as satisfying for readers, so his costumed colleagues and primary love interest makes the most sense in that compromise.

The story could've probably made more sense had it been longer than 8 pages. Either way it was a disappointment and a bad indication to where Geoff Johns' mindset is when it comes to Hal Jordan. At least Ivan Reis is as great as ever. Whatever people may think about what Morrison's currently doing, at least he's not portraying Hal as a dumbass. I don't understand what's the point.

It could've made sense with 8 pages. It doesn't need the first whole page to set the default scene. Geoff Johns could've used 1 or 2 pages to introduce the story instead of 4. That would give more room to what was Hal thinking, why he chose Bruce instead of his other friends, how Bruce had helped him in the past. But now, the story is just a wasted opportunity.
The fatal problem is, if this were the first time I read Johns' GL comic, I wouldn't think he likes Hal.

For me, it's not just "dumb Hal," it's that Johns has Hal riddled with doubt -- he "took a shortcut," or "doesn't deserve" the ring.... I've always thought that the bad characterization we got in the movie might've been Johns's doing and this reinforces it.

Now that I think about it, the Pengowirr story would have been fantastic for the 80th anniversary.

As much as I loved Rebirth and Sinestro Corps War, there is something to this dumb Hal thing, the way he wrote him and conversely wrote Sinestro it had me thinking, how could/did Hal ever defeat this guy?

I don't have a problem with Hal having doubts as long as it makes sense for his character and adds to his overall growth. These doubts introduced in this story make little to no sense at all and just make him look stupid.

Probably more than few at DC who probably wish they could have shoved Quinn in to all these anniversary issues.
