As much as I loved Rebirth and Sinestro Corps War, there is something to this dumb Hal thing, the way he wrote him and conversely wrote Sinestro it had me thinking, how could/did Hal ever defeat this guy?

Johns did explain it that Hal was always thwarting Sinestro because he could never anticipate what Hal was going to do and it bothered him to no end that Hal would always find a way to win when it made no sense that he should.

I agree about Superman but an introvert like Barry probably needs his extroverted buddy Hal to remind him to loosen up every now and then.

Depends on the League. Guy Gardner... Green Arrow... even Booster Gold i could see going for that crude 'junior high' humor. Just off the top of my head. The rest? Not so much.
