Well, in-context it was more from the events going on than him reeling from how he was acting under other writers like in the Alfred: RIP issue.

I would love to see the original "Emerald Twilight" published at some point, as an Elseworlds/Tales of the Multiverse/Etc OGN.

But that will obviously never happen for understandable reasons...

The thing is that those other stories were designed to break them down so that they could be built back up and return triumphantly. With Hal... not so much.(at least not after they ditched the original plan)

Personally, from what I've read about that story, I wouldn't want to see it and while "ET" was terrible, the other story wasn't much better, imo.

Like you mentioned, it was supposed to break down Hal and reassert his coolness in the spirit of "Knightfall" and "Death of Superman". But you're right, based on the outline I read it would've ultimately been pretty anticlimactic.
