I don't think Duggan and HiX-Man were deliberately creating/perpetuating an LGBTQ "theme" in Marauders. Although they might have deliberately thought of having visual and interesting LGBTQ members of mutant society with the intent of inclusion and representation.

FYI...Bobby would be her Red Bishop...Kate is the Red Queen. He is very present as part of the Marauders team so...titled or not...he does fit your idea of a theme.

Also, I’m 6 issues in, and Kitty seems to be drinking. A lot. Is Duggan making her into an alcoholic? Is it to do with her inability to walk through the gates? Something to do with Colossus (ugh)?

We haven't gotten any definitive reasons on the seemingly excessive drinking as yet...although in Kate's case it could be due to her frustration over not being able to traverse the Krakoan gates or...she just got a liking for it while she was bored, sailing to Krakoa with Logan's stash. Your guess is as good as any.
From what I've read in X-Force, the whole Kitty/Piotr thing is passe...at least that's how the writers seem to be taking it...so I don't see that being a reason.

I miss the curls, even the wavy hair would be better. Frankly, IMO Kate has naturally curly hair but just uses straightener to change her style. After all, he dad had curls though hard to see because it was short.
It was an artists choice to make it straight … and it stinks. Not every woman has straight hair X__X

No to Colossus, as that happened before the HoX/PoX event and she wasn't drinking then. The events of HoX/Pox had a timeskip of 6 months so if she wasn't drinking before the event due to failed wedding day, then her drinking now isn't it.

No, instead its because of her not able to use the gates and feels out of place on Krakoa.

Kate has worked for the mutant cause for 10 to 15 years, since she was 13. Sure she's taken time off, just like some other X-Men, but she's always for the good cause.
She has given a lot of time to the X-Men and related teams. She's risked her life and even had been severely injured several times in the line of heroics.

Now that all mutants finally have their own home, its different from Genosha or Utopia, and mutants from around the world are gathering there. All the X-Men, past and present, are there. Everyone can use the gates …. except her. Then there are some who are taunting her about that, the little boy in #1 and then Quintin Quire in X-Men / FF #1. She had to sail to the island due to not being able to use the gates (and not wanting to depend on others or take them from their duties), but once she arrived, no one was there to greet her. She had to wait for anyone to arrive and it was only 3 people= Bobby, Ororo & Logan. In Logan's case, he ran in to get his stash she brought and ran off, not actually taking time to really greet her.

She feels isolated and uncomfortable on Krakoa, stating she can't live on the island, despite her position as Red Queen gives her a HQ in the Red Keep at Hellfire Bay.
Its no wonder she's drinking.

I've never liked the yellow look either, as it makes her look like a student, and not the ex-headmistress she now is. Made sense when she first joined in the early 80s, but not now. She should've stuck to blue or purple since she became Shadowcat. Her X-Men Evolution look was good. While the basic design was similar to the training uniform, it was purple, not yellow, more fitting to her codename.

I'm fine w/ her hair howsoever they choose to style it, its the routine de-curling of hair in comics that's..fishy to me

The only one I have an issue with is Magma. With so many blondes in the New Mutants at any given point, I dont get why any artist makes her hair straight bc the curls at least helped differentiate her from the rest. She looks very generic in that training suit with straight blonde hair

I think it’s just laziness. Jean and Rogue used to be drawn with curls too.

The Immonen high pony with the side swept bangs is still the best alternative we’ve had so far.
