I was planning on re-watching this clip today so I'm glad that you posted it. This was my first major introduction to Storm and it made me a fan of her instantly.

In regards to her punk look- it's not my favorite for her but I've grown to appreciate it more over time. That was a very character defining era for Storm and it really added some depth to her.

I agree with you about the era. i hated the look but in terms of her growth and development I very much appreciated it. dealing with her powers not working properly, the earth rejecting her and her internal struggles with her decision to join the xmen all were contributing factors to her drastic external transformation.
