I can't believe that I didn't guess it was Sofia. We knew that the murdered mutant was a dancer and somehow I never made the connection to Wind Dancer Even when Spiral mentioned it was an old classmate's of David's I was worried it would be Nori to add drama to whatever is going on with him and Speed

Marvel wiping out all that trauma.

Frankly, I HATE this. The New X-Men were DEFINED by the fact that they suffered serious ****. 99% of their friends lost their powers. A substantial number were murdered. They were an entire generation who had to deal with the fact that Xavier and the X-Men COMPLETELY FAILED THEM. Surge said it best: "There's nothing more you can teach us, Prof. We already know how to die." The thing that made them singularly unique from the O5, Giant-Sized, New Mutants, and Generation X is slowly being wiped away, to the point they've been relegated to "Generic Student Wallpaper." They've become SO generic that now ANY RANDOM X-TEEN that's been created in the last 20 years is being lumped in with them EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT GENERATION.

Whether or not you liked how dark the KYost book got, it still served to set them apart from the previous generations. That disillusionment was central to their identity, and now with every resurrection and repowering it's being lost.
